My 2 cents:

By now, Tuna must be terrified of getting West Coasted with these dink and dunkers like Brees, Garcia, and Kitna. The temptation is for us to take advantage of the injured secondary of the Hawks but I fear the old ground tuna is coming. There is no way he wants to give Hasselback the chance to post 40 points on us. I am not afraid of embarassment though. After the last few weeks, what's another defensive decapitation. I hope we do go 3 wide + Witten and see if we can't put Seattle in catch up mode where we can afford to tear after Hasselback.

Good luck the BOYS. BTW, I will be in NYC for the game and would appreciate any recommendations for good a good bar to watch it in.

Adams, Kosier, Gurode, Rivera, Colombo....... we talk much shizzle on this board but it will come down to you guys. BUMS or STUDS?? We'll see.

Am I the only one who has no problem with using the running game against the #22 ranked run defense and also limiting Romos throws and potential mistakes?

No you're not the only one. Sometimes I hate the fact that Romo has been so successful. The 'boys have gone away from the run game since he became the QB. I think the team should have a min of 30 carries per game.

And while I understand the opportunities just haven't been there, it sucks to see the 'boys come out firing on the first possession.

Normally I'm with you on the running game but I'm afraid we will end up trying to jump start our running game while Seattle is moving up and down the field. The emotion will be running wild for Seattle at the beginning and I think we will struggle to move them off the ball. Also, Philly and Detroit had crap for running games. A few passes downfield will open up some lanes.
Good post.

I have a problem with it because no matter what a D is ranked we can never run the ball effectively at the start of games anyway.

Hell, yet another 10 for 30 first half effort from Jones and I might start clamoring for the Run and Shoot. ;)

I agree running was our strength to begin the season, but now its an afterthought. I like passing and all, but passing 35 times and running 15 isnt cutting it

me thinks playing from behind and the other team controlling the clock had more to do with abandoning the ground game than romo's play.

Did we go away from it because of Romo or because defense started giving up lots of points early and often?

That may be true in the last four games. But after the Carolina game, I think the offensive coaches got a little too pass happy with their new toy.

"Unfortunately, get ready for ball control."

What are you talking about...

Did you accidentally put a UN in front of fortunately?

Ball control is a great thing that wins football games.

Running the ball and sound defense does this so I will be HOPING for both.

It wins championships.

(sorry for the ALL bold... got stuck or something)

Even if we are just getting 3 yards a carry, I'd like to see us pound the ball in there and take a conservative route (unless we fall way behind of course). We need managable third downs. I am reminded of how Philly picked us apart. Nothing fancy. Just pounding the ball in there and chiseling away that 10 yard marker to make for more managable 3rd downs.

We need to establish a rythme early on, or we are finished before the second half even begins.

At Washington - 29 rushes.
At Arizona - 35 rushes.
Indianapolos - 36 rushes.
Tampa Bay - 37 rushes.

After that, the defense collapsed.

not when the opposing team figures it out and stack the LOS. if they do that and they line up 3rd stringers at cb we should attack their weakenesses. what's wrong with being agresive? then in the second half when we build a comfortable lead we run it down their throats

Its easy to see...

As the number of carries has declined in the past 4 or 5 games we have lost.

Coincedence?

I agree about the D collapsing and obviously putting more pressure on the offense.

But it's not so much the amount of the rushes. The offense was clearly taking off under Romo. He averaged 29 passing attempts per game in those 4 games with two 300 yard games if I'm not mistaken. I think the offense developed a different philosophy with Romo where the coaches relied more on Romo's ability than they prolly should have. So yeah the team had a bunch of rushing attempts, but clearly the numbers show they still relied on Romo.

Wash - 119 yards - 3.4 ypc
AZ - 126 - 3.6
Indy - 127 - 3.5
TB - 137 - 3.7

Parcells even mentioned in one of his PCs that he has to hold the coaches back from putting too much on Romo. New car syndrome and Romo still has the new car smell, tho he now has a couple of coffee stains to go with it.

Julius was running OK at the start of the Jacksonville game, and also at the start of the New Orleans game(82 yards, TD, first carry).

But 10 carries for 30 yards would be bad for a Seattle 1st half.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Not at all. We need to establish the run to keep the defense off the field and Romo thinking he has to throw a touchdown everytime he drops back to pass.

I never understood why our running game dropped significantly when Romo went under center. Our YPA stats were quite a bit better with Bledsoe. I would have thought teams not stacking the box would have been a positive.

I definitely share your frustration about the offense. There were a few games where it was getting a little too creative. I remember 3 straight deep pass plays of 15+ yards to open the first quarter in either the Giants or Saints game. Personally I prefer Tony in a short passing scheme. He's able to make the reads so quick that he can pick apart defenses. I don't see the need to go deep so often.

the words "unfortunately" and "ball control" should never be used together.

we NEED BALL CONTROL which we've not done since.... hmmmm... thanksgiving day!

tuna & co. have grossly screwed up our offensive balance (and method of attack and not exposing our defense) and the results speak loud and clear. i don't care about short fields, fumbles, etc.

GRIND IT OUT.
