This isn't really political so please don't turn it into a verboten debate but the whole changing of daylight savings time consequences would be freaking hilarious if it wasn't so sad.

For those who may not know, our elected officials decided that Daylight savings time should start March 11 this year instead of the traditional April to further save energy. What they failed to realize is that millions of computers already had DST factored in with the traditional date.

It's estimated to cost hundreds of millions to update computers and has potential for disaster if it effects air traffic control or other time specific applications.

I don't understand what it so hard about everyone who has that problem to go into their clock settings and move the clock forward one hour manually, while turning off the option for auto DST adjustment...

I swear some people are so dependent on computers and haven't the slightest idea how to use them.

Great solution for a guy with a PC. Not exactly simple for a bank who relies on time stamping when registering transactions, including those made at the millions of off-site ATMs.

My objection to DST is, and always has been, the extended, sweltering summer days. I'm sure in Maine that it's well-received, but here in Texas, it's darned demoralizing to have to look for shade at 8pm after an already extended barrage of rays throughout the normal sunshine hrs.

Since I'm not directly affected by the computer issue, I must say I've not considered those ramifications.

I afraid DST is with us forevermore.

Well Rock, as we know, it's hot even at night...

I wish we stayed on DST year round actually. It gives extra time to do things with the family outdoors...

I appreciate that view/benefits. I just happen to be hyper-sensitive to extreme temps. Doc says it's known as hyper hydrosis..a nasty condition whereby you sweat like that classic Chevy Chase scene on SNL. It's rare, but most debilitating for those who experience it. There is a treatment involving Botox injections in major sweat glands. I've not seriously considered the treatment--yet.

Now that's a heck of a disease to have here in Texas... bummer...

I would look into that if you are gonna stay here...

Wouldn't moving to a more temperate climate be a heckuva lot easier?

Sure, and I frequently dream of doing so in retirement. Boy do I! I have a business here so it's not quite plausible just now. I'm forty and I will have to make the best of things for some time. I'm not unhealthy at all really, just very uncomfortable. The thing is, my body easily overheats, and of course, the body's primary mechanism for regulating high body temp is to sweat. So I change clothes 2-3 times during the summer, mix in an extra shower, and I persevere.

But visions of Idaho, Wy, and Montana visit my reveries constantly.:) One day...

I was thinking more along the lines of southern Va.

Get into the mountains and it never gets unbearably warm but never is frigidly cold either.

It's been my experience that a guy who hustles can make a living even if he's dropped off north of the Arctic circle.

DON"T DO IT!!! One of the side effects is Irritable Bowel Syndrome. You'll get that, then be sliddin' off the crapper because of your sweaty buns!

I guess on March 11th I'll just watch all the planes fall from the sky...or something...or really...nothing.

Its a minor software fix to change time settings. Anyone paying big bucks to have it done are getting taken for a ride!
