The Steelers of the 70's were just plain better than us. They beat us in the pre-season, the regular season (even 1977), and the post-season. It took a couple of garbage time TDs to make those Super Bowls look respectable from Big D's perspective. They may not have been significantly better, but better they were.

Like I said....no point in debating this. I'd like to see his average yard per carry based on downs. Of course, we all know that he saw 8 man fronts for much of his career--which is something our beloved Emmitt would never have to fear seeing with all of our arsenal of weapons. But there I go again hitting my head against the wall with facts.

I'm a huge Emmitt fan, I just think some here don't give the ever humble and polite Barry the credit he deserves.
Teams rarely used 8 man fronts to stop Barry. They tried to limit him to 1 or 2 big gains per game. Teams had to deal with Herman Moore and Brett Perriman and Johnny Morton. I saw a stat one time that said if you took away Barry's longest carry in each game of his career that he averaged 2.5 yards per carry on the rest of them. He also lost more yardage than any RB in History.

It is my own wacky opinion but I simply would not want Barry on my team no matter what. Give me a straight ahead runner every time. 2nd & long is a handicap. 3rd & long is even worse. You simply can't beat those odds hoping for your Defense to hold up in the hope that 1 or 2 times a game he is gone for a long score.

I do agree with this, but I will say the disparity between their 1970's Hall of Famers and ours is a bunch of bull. No one can tell me Chuck Howley, Drew Pearson, Cliff Harris, and a couple of others aren't as deserving as a few of the Steelers from that era who are in.

True, there are way too many Steelers in the Hall. Two extra championships can do amazing things.

This is not Cowboys related, but can someone tell me why Bob Kuchenberg is not in the Hall of Fame? Tommy Nobis too?

It's pretty simple to me. It's because, with the exception of the old-timers committee, you don't have football people voting on the nominees. You have have media folks voting and all you have to do is read their various papers to very quickly come to the conclusion that most of them are full of crap.

The media loony toons would never have voted Bob Hayes in by themselves.

That is exactly the crux of the problem.

Truthfully, I wasn't aware of those statistics, but again, he was on a horrible team, with a horrible OL. I shudder to think what he could have done as a member of the Cowboy's in the early 90's.

I doubt I will attend an American professional football game in person, again...Far too many violent fans seem to gravitate to games and can't demonstrate consistent sportsmanship let alone a knack for knowing 'when to say when' with the alcohol...All too often, there are plenty of sections that more closely resemble cage matches.

So, apart from Jerry's HD screen, mine at home is just fine for watching

I got one: I disagree with the conventional wisdom that you don't want to spend too much money on one position. Money is money, the cap is the cap.

I guess maybe I've been to 350+ college or pro games. The scene you descirbe has occurred maybe 1-2 times at a pro game and depending on if you're in the sutdent section, maybe 7-8 times in college. I'm not sure i know what you're talking about really.

I completely reject that notion. He had a very good OL and 2 of his guys were great.

If we had never had Emmitt, I would still feel this way.

We did, and you are a Cowboy fan...so will never know for sure how you would feel in that other circumstance.

And that's perfectly fine.

I'm ashamed to admit I was kinda relieved when JJ replaced Landry. Sad for Tom, obviously, but excited about the change in ownership, the infusion youth on the roster and coaching staff, and Jerry's limitless optimism ("we have to win, we will win"). Tom's greatness notwithstanding, we were stagnant as a franchise and desperately needed a new direction.

We're on one of those rolls again bbgun. I felt the same way. Even though I remember thinking Tom could have won more than 1 game with the 1989 squad.

Being a Cowboys fan has never skewed my football opinions.

College, very different circumstances...Professional football?...I've been to several with the last a year or two ago and it was definitely my last...Just began to increasingly feel like a venue for people to simply release their frustrations, anger etc. and never felt sporting...Amazing too because NBA games, whole other kind of feel (Even at opposing venues)...Personally, I think that it's related to the violence of the game but that's me

Demarcus was offsides during the first drive of the Giants playoff game. No, he's not to blame for the subsequent poor play that led to Toomer's TD, but he did keep the drive alive with that penalty.
