Up until now... T.O. has been our Irvin

A really good part of the offense... keeps things going... a contributor. A team player. Right now he looks like he is content with us just winning. That is a good thing.

With that said... the "playmaker" in Owens has yet truly show up...

We need more.

I think Irvins contribution was much more than what Owens is showing right now.

I don't have a problem with TO, I just don't see him being as effective as Irvin was, as far as motivation and production.

The playmaker dropped a few in his days... But, due to the constant negative pub that TO often draws... the drop moniker sticks well because of that pub.

Boy, am I confused. I thought Irvin was "The Playmaker." And you're saying that TO has been solid but not a playmaker, thus = Irvin.

Too young to remember Irvin?

The thread clearly points out that he is similar to Irvin in the "team first" sense

That's insane. I completely understand that the media is just waiting to scrutinize TO's every wrong move, but at the same time, Irvin NEVER did not give 100% to any play and I never recall being thoroughly dissapointed in him like I was with TO after that first Giants game and the second Commanders (the most expensive pile of garbage in NFL history) game.

TO pulls up when he thinks he's gonna get drilled, he's not really as much of a team leader to begin with, and his drops certainly warrant the attention they have been getting because they have come at times when we really needed him. I'm not talkin about a drop on like a 1st and 5 or something...Irvin stepped up big countless times when we needed a score or a huge conversation. TO really hasn't to that level thus far, and probably never will since it looks like his prime is slowly fading away.

Actually... if you want to go tit for tat....

Owens is on pace for 90 catches(prob would have been over 100 if Romo started season) Irvin passed 90 reception twice in his entire career. Owens is going on 4th year of 90 catches or more in less time. If not for shortened season in 2004 and 2005... he would probably be going for 6 season with 90 catches or more.

If you go to the argument that Emmitt got more touches than Irvin got passes... then you can argue that Owens isnt the focus on offense because we are balanced.

That is really a shame. The guy was a gamer! I have heard a good many fans and experts say that of the triplets the one the Cowboys could least afford to lose was 88. He is the perfect example of a player that I loved in Big D, but if he was wearing another jersey would have hated him! Kind of like we all probably were with Deion!

No, I wouldn't have hated him, I would of supported him just the same (unless he was playing the Cowboys) as I have done with Emmitt, L. Allen, Coakley, Glover, ect.

I'd say T Glenn has been more "Irvin like" then T Owens. He is not the vocal leader that Irvin was but he plays to the whistle and does what he has to to make the play. This team still needs that vocal, in your face, backing up talk with the play, leader that Irvin was.At least Romo shows some real leadership qualities.

Irvin really helped make the Cowboys what they were in the 90's, I mean he started it all. He arrived first and did so much more than just catch passes. He was a rare breed and I'm very thankful to have gotten the opportunity to see him play. Now TO has been put in the same position that Irvin served in the 90's, just with a different cast around him. By the way, there is no Emmitt Smith on this team and Emmitt gave the defenses something to think about every play! But the WR depth that we have now is far better than any that I can remember in a loooong time! So you can see TO doesn't have the same advantages that Irvin had but he does have some that Irvin didn't.

Yeah and TO never catches the ball. Obviously you do not see his yards in the NFC compared to others do you?

Did Irvin ever drop 12 passes in one year?

T.O. needs to step it up to earn his money.

I don't doubt Owens ability, and I do agree with the Emmitt argument, but Irvin was about much more than stats and almost one season of Owens hasn't produced a resemblance of Irvin yet.

There was never a question about anything football related with Irvin, not his spirit, not his work ethic and not his play. Owens will have to overcome some of his own homemade ghosts to be as effective.

I'd love to see it happen.

I would love to hear what that is?
Although I wasn't really talking about stats... per my thread 1st post.
What hasnt Owens done that Irvin did? I am asking... curious
