RAVENS-TEXANS GAME WILL AIR ON DIRECTV
Posted by Mike Florio on September 12, 2008, 4:32 p.m. EDT

Well, we’re not quite sure why or how it happened, but the good folks at the NFL and ESPN have decided that the Monday night game between the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans will be available to DirecTV customers.

“After taking a closer look at it, we have decided that our Sunday Ticket subscribers will receive Monday night’s telecast of the Baltimore Ravens at Houston Texans game,” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told us by e-mail a few moments ago.

The game won’t be available via DirecTV in Baltimore or Houston, but it wouldn’t be available via DirecTV in those cities if they played the game on Sunday. In those cities, it can be seen on the local CBS affiliate.

Kudos to the league and ESPN for doing the right thing.

UPDATE: Oh, crap. This means we can’t make fun of Emmitt Smith. For a week.

This is actually good news for me even though I do not have Direct TV.
I live in Texas and there is nothing more boring then watching the Texans against the Ravens on a Sunday. With the move to Monday I get a different game on Sunday.
YES!

Reliant Stadium damaged; Monday's game is off
The Houston Texans will not be playing their home opener against the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night at Reliant Stadium.

The game was supposed to have been played at 7:30 p.m., but Hurricane Ike has caused damage to the stadium that has made it unsuitable for hosting the game.

``The facility will not be usable,'' said Shey Guinn, president of SMG, the company that manages Reliant Park.

``There's some structural damage to the roof. Part of it is off,'' Guinn said.
``There's also some other damage on the property caused by wind and water. We're in the process of assessing the damage,'' he said. ``As far as the game being postponed again or played, that will be up to the NFL.''

Report: Reliant Stadium damaged in hurricane; game postponed

ESPN.com news services

Updated: September 13, 2008, 12:40 PM ET

Hurricane Ike, which swept through Galveston and Houston overnight, caused substantial damage to Reliant Stadium, so the Texans game against the Baltimore Ravens will not be played Monday night.
The home opener, originally scheduled for Sunday, had been pushed to Monday night because of the storm.
"The facility will not be usable," Shey Guinn, president of SMG, the company that manages Reliant Park, told the Houston Chronicle.
"There's some structural damage to the roof. Part of it is off," Guinn said, according to the paper. "There's also some other damage on the property caused by wind and water. We're in the process of assessing the damage. As far as the game being postponed again or played, that will be up to the NFL."
According to the Chronicle, the two teams will not comment until they speak with the league; a conference call is scheduled for later Saturday.

More than likely San Antonio if they ever looked. Why they didn't go there for just only 1 game I don't know.

The obvious answer is to play it in Baltimore and call it a Texans home game. [/goodell]

The Houston Texans will not be playing their home opener against the Baltimore Ravens on Monday night at Reliant Stadium.

The game was supposed to have been played at 7:30 p.m., but Hurricane Ike has caused damage to the stadium that has made it unsuitable for hosting the game.

"The facility will not be usable," said Shey Guinn, president of SMG, the company that manages Reliant Park.
"There's some structural damage to the roof. Part of it is off," Guinn said.
"There's also some other damage on the property caused by wind and water. We're in the process of assessing the damage," he said. "As far as the game being postponed again or played, that will be up to the NFL."

The game had originally been set for 3:15 p.m. Sunday, but because of Ike the NFL moved it to Monday night.

The Texans and Ravens will have no comment until they hear from the league. Conference calls among three are scheduled for later today.
The NFL will determine where and when the Texans play the Ravens. The Texans' bye week (Oct. 26) is a possibility. The Texans and Bengals have the same bye week. The Ravens' bye week is Nov. 9. The Texans host the Bengals on Nov. 9. The Texans could host the Bengals on Oct. 26 and the Ravens on Nov. 9.

The big question is, can Reliant Stadium be repaired in time for the Texans' next home game Oct. 5 against Indianapolis.

Rice Stadium could be an alternative. When Hurricane Katrina forced the Saints to leave New Orleans in 2005, they relocated to San Antonio and played at the Alamodome.

The last thing the Texans want to do is to play road games until Reliant Stadium is ready.

Until experts assess the damage at Reliant Stadium, nobody knows anything.
The Colts game marks the first of three in a row at home. Miami (Oct. 12) and Detroit (Oct. 19) are scheduled to come to Houston after Indianapolis.

I posted a question yesterday wondering how the NFL thought they would be able to play this game the day after a major hurricane hit Houston. It ws obvious the powers that be had never experienced life after a major hurricane hit.

I live in the area hit by Hurricane Ivan in 2004 and it was horrible. It is literally like living in a war zone, without the bombs exploding of course. No power for over 2 weeks. Water must be boiled, generators running everywhere, curfews in effect, major bridges and highways destroyed. It's terrible and something I never want to go through again.
