The Cowboys weren’t big players in free agency, nor did they have a first-round pick who is supposed to come in and change everything. No, the NFC East champs stuck to their course when it came to talent acquisition and worked with what they were given starting with the No. 58 pick.

No one knows what that means for their 2019 outlook, yet. What we do know is that the initial assessment of the roster the team has assembled looks like a strong, deep, flexible unit. On the surface, this looks like the best roster Dallas has constructed in a while and has the kind of depth that breeds competition and hopefully excellence.

So who’s the best?

Each week during the season we update player power rankings, using a combination of performance, past history and expectations to craft a list of the best. It’s all bragging rights but with the addition of a free agent and rookie class, along with a key departure or two, there’s plenty of shakeup.

Normally the rankings cover the top 30, but in the offseason with a 90-man roster we’ve expanded the rankings to 63 members, the equivalent of the regular season roster and practice squad. The positional numbers don’t work out exactly that way, but that’s a good thing.

Here, we’ll see the areas the team is strong in, and where the weak spots of the club might be depth-wise.
