The Cowboys are finally on the board in the 2019 free agency realm. Dallas has signed interior defensive lineman Christian Covington to join forces with the bodies already in the fold. Covington is a Canadian native, but has spent the majority of the last decade in Houston. He spent his entire four-year career with the Texans after attending Rice University.

The Cowboys signed Covington to a one-year deal after he and Houston did not work out an extension. In 2018, Covington played 12 games and recorded three and a half sacks. He was originally a sixth-round pick in 2015 and has 7.5 sacks and nine career starts.

Dallas has a heavy need at the position as they will lose David Irving in free agency and have no plans to bring him back. Datone Jones and Caraun Reid are also unrestricted free agents for the club. Exclusive-rights free agent Daniel Ross was locked in for another year and will rejoin 3-technique Maliek Collins, nose tackle Antwaun Woods and verstaile defensive lineman Tyrone Crawford.

Adding Covington, who stands 6-foot-2 and weighs 310 pounds to the mix will help, but Dallas is not likely finished shopping at the position, whether in free agency, the draft, or both.

The Cowboys have signed several of their own players this offseason, but Covington is the first who played games for another team in 2018. He qualifies for the comp pick formula.
