The hits keep coming for the Dallas Cowboys, this time in the form of trouble with the law. With the team in a bit of a tailspin losing six of their last nine games, placing their head coach squarely on the proverbial hot seat, the last thing the organization needed was an arrest. Well, they got it anyway.
Defensive tackle Antwaun Woods was arrested this past Tuesday after a traffic stop in Frisco, TX, where the Cowboys’ training facility is. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Woods was charged with possessions of marijuana (between two and four ounces), tampering with evidence and possession of paraphenalia.

Leaving out for a moment anyone’s personal beliefs on the legality of marijuana in 2019, it’s another bad look for a player entering a contract year. Woods was sent home earlier this season, along with fellow defensive lineman and rookie Trysten Hill, due to being late to a team meeting.
Woods has been dealing with an injury to his MCL and was scheduled to miss his second straight game in Thursday night’s contest against the Chicago Bears. The consequences from this action from either the team or the league office is unknown, but at a position that’s been underwhelming throughout 2019, it’s a definitive blow.
The 2016 undrafted rookie out of USC has been with the organization since the last two seasons, starting all 23 games he’s appeared in at the one-technique position. He has no sacks and just one quarterback hit on the season, despite being thought of as a run stopper who has the ability to collapse the pocket.
Christian Covington has been his compliment and moved into a bigger role in the games Woods’ has missed due to injury.
Marijuana arrests or suspensions is something not unfamiliar for defensive linemen in Dallas. David Irving was suspended four games in both 2017 and 2018 before being suspended indefinitely. Randy Gregory is currently suspended indefinitely and despite offseason chatter he might be eligible to play this season, that seems to no longer be the case.
