The newest Dallas Cowboy rookies hit the field at The Star for minicamp for just the second time on Saturday morning and already there is unexpected news.

Seventh-round selection Mike Weber suffered a knee injury in morning walk-throughs and will be scheduled for an MRI to assess the extent of any damage per Head Coach Jason Garrett.

Weber tweaked his knee at the morning session but was able to attend the afternoon practice as a non-participant, so there is the possibility the injury is not serious.

Until the results of the MRI exam are revealed, there should be some concern about Weber’s immediate status for the future. Despite being a seventh-round pick, there were hopes the Ohio State alum would be able to make a serious push for a roster spot to be the full-time backup relief to Ezekiel Elliott.

A best-case scenario would be a minor strain which would not require more than just simple rest and recovery prior to training camp. If it is more severe and Weber has to undergo surgery, it will be a damaging blow to his rookie season that for all intents and purposes never even got started.

In the event it is a worst case situation, the Cowboys could find themselves looking towards veteran free agent options at running back, which could include Jay Ajayi, Chris Ivory, Javorius Allen and Bilal Powell.
