The Dallas Cowboys have a list of needs that could be addressed at No. 10 in the 2021 NFL Draft, especially on defense, but what if Florida tight end Kyle Pitts is there for the taking? Will team owner Jerry Jones’ “infatuation” lead him to trade up and add Pitts to this high-octane offense?

Former Cowboy Marcus Spears stated his claim about Pitts possibly being a Cowboy on ESPN’s First Take.

“I hope to God Kyle Pitts isn’t there at 10. Cause Dallas don’t need him. I understand the level of talent, and if he is there, it’s too enticing to not take that level of talent, but trying to solidify the defense with a corner, defensive lineman is needed.”

“There needs to be an emphasis put on need more so than the talent that’s there.”

The Cowboys finished the 2020 season with the second-worst run defense in the NFL, only ahead of the neighboring Texans. In Week 4, Dallas gave up over 300 yards rushing to the Browns, pushing to a historically bad start to the season for the defense.

With a plethora of talent at cornerback possibly available at No. 10, is Pitts worth passing up a chance on cornerbacks Patrick Surtain II or Jaycee Horn? After cornerback Trevon Diggs’s promising rookie season, adding another corner to play alongside him could be a huge jump for the defense.

Pitts has been dubbed the “Lebron James of tight end prospects” by Matt Miller during ESPN’s Get Up! and believes Dallas could potentially trade up to get the Florida product and become “the best offense in the NFC.”

With trades swirling in the NFL with teams looking to find their best spot in the draft, the Cowboys could see Jones making some moves ahead of April 29 and during the draft.

ESPN’s Todd Archer weighed in on “Trader Jerry”, believing Jones needs to make some moves for Dallas to find the prospects they want in 2021.

The Cowboys’ second-round pick is at No. 44. What if they gave up No. 44 and their pick at No. 75 or No. 99 to move up earlier in the second round, or even to the tail end of the first round, to draft, say, Alabama defensive tackle Christian Barmore? No team wants to be as thin at defensive tackle as it appears the Cowboys are, and Barmore could fix that issue.

After the aforementioned historically bad season for the defense, Barmore could be a possible trade-up prospect for Dallas. Barmore fits the billing of an NFL defensive tackle and would be an immediate reinforcement in the middle of defensive coordinator Dan Quinn’s defense.

The Cowboys have two picks apiece in the third, fourth and sixth rounds because of trades or compensatory selections. They can also deal 2022 picks if necessary to get trades done.

A few times in recent drafts, Jones has lamented moves that in hindsight worked out better the way they ended up happening. He thought the Cowboys played it too safe in selecting Martin over quarterback Johnny Manziel in the 2014 draft. Martin could one day join Larry Allen as the best offensive linemen in franchise history.

The Cowboys did their best impression of the Patriots in 2020, cashing out on compensatory picks and these could be integral in allowing Jones to find his dream prospects.

With Pitts being a historic prospect at the tight end position and Dallas owning a plethora of picks to move around, “Trader Jerry” making a big move could be the story of the draft and the Cowboys might need it if they look to compete in 2021.
