Last week, Cowboys Wire went through almost every conceivable trade scenario the Dallas Cowboys could use to move up from their No. 58 perch in the 2019 NFL draft. Can Dallas risk waiting to see if any top prospects fall to them? Do they trust they’ll be able to find an impact player if they stay put?

If they can’t risk trusting that, then they’ll need to move up. In this week’s mock draft, run on Fanspeak’s On the Clock Simulator, we did just that. Using our trade value calculations, we approached this draft with the intent of moving up should a high-value target start to fall. Just that happened, bringing us a test of whether we could put our money where our mouth is. Check out the gallery, or below to go through the various prospect profiles.

Cowboys 7-round Mock Draft: April 15, 2019

Trade 2nd round (93) + 2020 1st rounder (117) to Chargers for 1.28

This is Tier 3 on our trade totem, getting Dallas into the back of the first round to grab a key player.

1.28 T.J. Hockensen, TE, Iowa

We can’t forsee a possibility that Hockensen slides this far, but this was the tier we rated him as on our Top 30 Big Board and there he was so we made the move. Hockenson is looked at as one of the best tight end prospects to come out of the draft in some time. Don’t let the limited stats fool you from thinking. He’s a plus-blocking tight end in a run-first offense.

His athleticism screams out and once the film comes on his savvy as a receiving option shines through. Has ability to be the heir to the Gronkowski throne as the most complete TE in the game.

I would very happy with this trade.

TE is the last piece to the offensive puzzle for us.

Witten is back but it's late in his career now.

Another TE to help Cooper and rhe rest of the WRs and Zeke would be huge.

DL is needy..but scoring points and controlling the TOP outweighs sacks.

This would make a complete makeover of the receivers if this happened.

Get this guy.

Anybody else just adds to the conga line at TE.

College TE are iffy, I mean take a look at the last few can't miss candidates taken high in the draft not only by this team but others, Maxx Williams ring a bell. I would rather keep next years 1st unless you have a time travelling DeLorean and you know something the rest of us do not.

Tight end is the position that is best gained by just paying one tbh. It’s the most wasted pick in the draft next to kickers and punters lol
