USC CB Josh Shaw will be sidelined indefinitely after a heroic act...or not

Just hours after being voted a team captain on Saturday, Shaw was attending a family function when he saw his 7-year-old nephew, who does not know how to swim, struggling in a nearby pool. Instinctively, Shaw jumped from a second-floor balcony onto concrete below and crawled into the pool where he was able to help his nephew to safety, according to a release from the school.

After getting his nephew to safety, Shaw made his way to a ladder and pulled himself from the water.

"I would do it again for whatever kid it was, it did not have to be my nephew," Shaw said. "My ankles really hurt, but I am lucky to be surrounded by the best trainers and doctors in the world. I am taking my rehab one day at a time, and I hope to be back on the field as soon as possible."

What does make sense is the guy was daredevil jumping from the 2nd floor and tried to land in the pool but missed and concocted this lie to cover it up and the lie just spiralled way the hell out of control.

From LAPD: "On Saturday, August 23rd, at approximately 10:40 p.m. PT officers from Central Division responded to a radio call of a screaming woman at the 500 block of North Figueroa. When they arrived, officers met with witnesses who directed them to an apartment complex. After numerous attempts to contact the residents of the apartment, officers feared someone may be in inside and made entry, but no one was home. Officers continued their investigation and noticed the rear window had been pried open. Witnesses described a black male with dreadlocks leaving the apartment balcony. Officers then later met with a woman who was a resident of the apartment along with her roommates. The female said that her boyfriend was Josh Shaw who is a black male with dreadlocks. Mr. Shaw is listed in the report as the victim's boyfriend who happened to have a similar description of the suspect leaving the apartment. No suspects have been arrested. The investigation is still ongoing."

More drama at USC ... where running back Anthony Brown just QUIT THE FOOTBALL TEAM after calling head coach Steve Sarkisian a "racist."

Brown -- a redshirt senior -- just made the announcement on Instagram ... where he said, "Sark treated me like a slave in his Office...Can't play for a racist MAN!!!!! #Fighton."

He also added an image that says, "Couldn't play for a racist man."

It's just the latest drama at the University of Southern California ... where cornerback Josh Shaw was just suspended for lying about heroically rescuing his 7-year-old nephew.

Meantime, several USC players are coming to Sarkisian's defense ... including linebacker Scott Felix who tweeted, "Coach Sark is a great coach and even better person. Accusations like that couldn't be more untrue."
