Raiders | Team contacts Vanderjagt
Thu, 30 Nov 2006 19:18:33 -0800
The <A href="http://www.kffl.com/team/28/nfl">Oakland Raiders have contacted free agent PK Mike Vanderjagt (Cowboys), but were told the place kicker is not interested in kicking on a week-to-week basis.

I guess he wants to have his cake and eat it too, per say.

The Raiders must be tired of feeding Janikowski.

Take note of what happens to kickers drafted in the first round, simply do not do it.

Sebastin has a bad back so he might not go this weekend so the Raiders brought in two guys to try out (Edinger and some former Charger pick) then asked Mike to kick too.

janikowski has been an excellent kicker for them....he's a probowler....I'd never spend a first rounder, or even a 2nd rounder on a kicker or a punter, not even a super star....but I would use a draft pick on one if there was one I liked.

Reasonable choice. Why go to a team where he'd play for a week or two at best then get cut when their guy was healthy?

Only reason is to showcase yourself for a contract next year. He just got cut, he needs to show the league the Cowboys made a mistake if he wants a decent deal next year.

That is, if he is confident he can actually go to Oakland and make kicks...

I think he expects, not unreasonably so, that he doesn't need to go out and become a journeyman who takes any offer. He can afford (literally) to wait for a better situation.
