Veteran wideout in Cowboys' plans?

I'm all for just letting the young guys go out and get experience. Stop stunting growth and get some production out of the rookies while they're still on the cheap.

Valid argument, but you also have to consider injuries and if the receivers aren't getting the job done. No bigger cole beasley fan on this page than I am, but I'm not terribly confident with the Williams/Beasley 2/3

Unless we land one in the draft, we'll add an inside/outside vet in VFA eventually. Unless one will take the vet min now, there's no particular rush.

I think Beasley/Harris are ready. JMO, of course.

gonna be hard for harris to contiune to grow as a reciever because he plays so much on st's. the fact he is so good at st's makes it hard not to have him in there but it limits his plays on offense. not a fan of adding a vet but some good arguments for doing it

True.

I think I'm just willing to take that risk. I don't see us winning it all this year and not having adequate fire power at WR won't be the reason.

Now if the team looks like it's going somewhere, then take the necessary precautions to insure your team from injury and ensure steady production from that spot.

But they have to earn the help. Nahmean? That's just my thinking at least.

I feel so ethically dirty but nonetheless and thus, I will like your response.

You are not only a scholar, but also a prince amongst men.
I'm nominating you at the Farmer's Branch this year- and you knows I gots pull with the Boys down there.
How's that for some special Special?
Now- back to my hunt for the Rougarou...

I'd like to sign a vet. I don't think Williams or Harris are ready. It's just so important for WRs to run the proper route in this offense.

I probably wouldn't bring him until after training camp. He already knows the system so that shouldn't be an issue.

Not before the draft. I don't see any reason especially with this draft deep in WRs to sign a vet right now. We have Dez, Williams, Harris, Beasley and some practice squad guys. I am guessing we will draft another WR and sign one or two as undrafted FAs.

This. With such a deep WR draft and so much talent I'd rather draft one and then maybe still bring in a bet but after the draft they will know what kind of player they need, what kind of to and things like that.

Avant, Britt, Burleson would be nice options. There are a bunch of these type of guys on the market. They need a vet for sure not sure is Beasley and Harris are ready for that much PT but a vet will give them some backup if they or the rookie we draft aren't. Haven't we had interest in Nate in the past?

In four seasons under Linehan, Burleson caught 12 touchdowns and averaged 10.7 yards per game.

I'm not trying to be negative, but surely we can find someone in the draft that can do better than this.

They are. But we need a third WR who can play outside, too.

The real concern is the "real WR" type who can step up if a starter goes down.

Both Harris and Beasley are very role specific.

I like both players but put either outside, you have a problem.

WR is a need. Not immediate in a very deep WR draft, but it is necessary.

I think they will wait until training camp or even after a couple of pre-season games to bring in a veteran receiver if they bring one in at all. They may even wait until after the first game of the season. There is no rush. They need to let the young guys get their reps in.

I guess I'd be okay with this... but I really hope Beasly gets a lot of playing time this season. He could be one of the better slot receivers in the league if given a chance. He's very quick, got good hands, and runs great routes.

This move should be a security blanket if Dez or T-Will goes down.

I want to sign a veteran WR because if we don't I have a bad feeling that we might be spending a 1st or 2nd round pick on WR. I'd rather get Burleson if it means Jason won't try to get cute in the draft.

Never been much a fan of Burleson's, just don't know how much he could really help. Britt and Sidney Rice are both still FA, both are injury prone but both are big targets that can produce when healthy. I'm sure either can be had for cap friendly deals as veteran back ups. As deep as this draft is at WR, it may still be worth taking a look at one of those guys.

T-Will would start but the Cowboys have to consider worst-case scenarios. If Dez goes down, T-Will becomes the #1. Can the Cowboys handle that? They need a vet with experience to back up both WRs -- preferably one who has started in the league.

If Romo goes down, we will probably have Weeden. Can the Cowboys handle that?
