Bradie is right – This D stepped up in OT!

Off With The Helmets last night with Bradie James and Roy Williams.

OWTH with Bradie and Roy

One part in particular from that clip got me to thinking.

Did we start bashing the defense for the collapse at the end of regulation and then give them no credit for two key stops in OT? It would only be fair to give credit where credit was due.

If you know me you know it's been a long time now that I have been reluctant to give this defense credit for anything because I want to see them play well on a consistent basis before I start handing out kudos.

I decided to go to the film and see if Bradie was right in asking the fans to give the Cowboys defense some credit for the OT stops or if we should really be giving the credit to the Chiefs offense for screwing up.

Here's the Chiefs first offensive series...

Ok. You gotta give Ware the credit for forcing the Left Tackle to hold him because of the inside move. It's the backup Tackle, but that's ok because Ware is supposed to abuse him and he did. That 10 yard penalty screwed up that drive.

Bradie gets a point for that drive.

Now here's the Chiefs second offensive series...

Give it up folks. Mike Jenkins does work on that first play. Looked like Champ Bailey!

Then you got Ratliff and Hatcher stuff the run. On 3rd and 9 the coverage is good and the pass rush is getting there so Cassel dumps it off and Brooking takes care of business like he always does.

Bradie James is the big winner. I give this defense credit for making two great stops in OT and getting the ball back to the offense so Miles Austin could finish off the game.

Nice work DC. Too bad about that last drive in regulation...I thought the rest of the game the D was REAL good, with some great individual performances. Gotta admit, both sides of the ball are trending upwards. Get healthy and clean up the brutal and embarrassing mistakes...look out. I love the doubt and negativity that seems to be everywhere about Romo and this team. Hope the boys put their noses to the grindstone, keep together, follow guys like Brooking, and avoid any distractions. This is actually my favorite Cowboy team since Aikman and co.

It's always something with the defense.

They can play three and a half quarters of football the way they're supposed to and then they lay an egg at the worst possible time.

I do give full credit for the two stops in overtime, the second one was more than we could have asked for.

But this team is crazy and never hitting on all cylinders.

If the defense shows up, the offense slumbers and a special teams miscue will likely show up. If the offense is scoring points, the D will likely do the same and keep the game closer than it should be.

I'm about as optimistic as you will find, but these guys make it bloody hard to be that way a lot of the time.

Meh, I'm not a big fan of congratulating a guy for crawling out of pit he dig and jumped into.

I will say they endured pretty well which is more than can be said for them in recent history.

The defense and the team in general didn't quit, which is very good to see.

The 2nd KC possession in OT around mid-field could have caused the defense to cave in, but they decided to fight.

I don't know if this is an inflection point for the season, but I'm just glad that the team gave it their best when they could have completely collapsed.

I agree. The most encouraging thing I saw was the team gritting it out for the win. Big difference front what they would normally do in a game like that.

Defense was in a real tough spot in OT after the Chiefs got the ball at the 50. They were 15 yards or so from being in range to win the game.

So the 3 and out our D forced was absolutely clutch and they stepped up big-time on that series.

It only led to us, you know... winning the football game.
