Video captures man punching himself before claiming Lane County detectives beat him

A video released Tuesday afternoon by the Lane County Sheriff's Office shows a man punching himself in the face in an effort to get out of jail, according to deputies.

Aleksander R. Tomaszewski claimed detectives beat him during a Jan. 9 interview, said Sgt. Carrie Carver, a sheriff's office spokeswoman. But in reality, the California man injured himself while he was in a holding cell, Carver said. Video cameras were rolling and recorded the self-inflicted assault.
