it's not just about him throwing. Will he crush his finger into yogurt if he falls on it. Will it fall off when someone swipes at the ball and his hand....it's not a smart move!

Have you ever had a broken finger?

The only way I see him doing more damage is if he hits it off someone's helmet while throwing the ball.

People including the press have the wrong idea about this injury.

It is not an injury to his pinkie. His pinkie is just fine. For now.

It's a fracture of the fifth metacarpal and the fracture is just below the knuckle. Right now its nondisplaced.

Again. Not a problem of toughing it out. The problem is protecting it from becoming a displaced fracture.

With Romo insisting on playing I'm guessing they are doing the best they can to stabilize that area and protect it from trauma. If he can throw the ball well and they can protect it then it's a no brainer. He tries to play.

But if this backfires and he gets that hit hard enough (which wouldn't take a lot) to displace that fracture then he's going backwards.

Could he still play if it was displaced. Yeah depending on if he didn't care about having surgery to fix it later or just living with it deformed and likely having less strength in that hand.

Could it get displaced enough that he would have to have surgery. You bet.

If it gets angulated towards the thumb enough his pinkie will point at the thumb. Bet that doesn't help his throwing and accuracy.

If it gets angulated away from the thumb then it will be constantly getting caught to things. Enough rotation and the side of the pinkie will be up pointed in the wrong direction.

The thoughts of a significantly displaced and angulated and rotated pinkie bothers me since we're talking about a Pro Bowl franchise QB who just set all kinds of records passing last year and it's likely to get much better with RWR here now.

Tony and Jerry have been told this I'm sure. It's Tony's hand at risk so it's his decision unless the owner vetos him playing.

It's a high risk proposition that will look golden if he gets thru the next few weeks without a major complication. OTOH it will look like lunacy if we lose him for the rest of the year which could happen.

There is a good chance he'll only get it displaced a little if he plays and he's protected IMO. If he can throw with little displacement then they will have been right.

Risky as hell.

And it's not a finger fracture.

Im still on the fence about this. Especially when I heard that espn doctor say that if any more damage comes to his finger he will need surgery. Scares me. But on the other side I still want him to light up the rams, and show how tuff he is, I doubt the Rams pass rush can penatrate our O-Line

Rams will come after him hard. If he can play well and the Cowboys think they can protect him then let him play. If not, start Johnson and let him recoup.

There's a million ways he could do more damage, including smashing it on a helmet, and let's not forget it's his throwing hand. His pinkie doesn't have to smash into 1000 pieces for him to end up being out 6-8 weeks, if not for the season, instead.

We won't even begin to discuss how it would affect his accuracy, even if he just gets it aggravated during the game. If I had faith in the line to keep guys off him then maybe, but last week was a disaster.

I think Tony's doing what he needed to do to remain a leader for this team even while injured. Saying screw the finger, I'll play is huge.

Thankfully, the decision isn't in his hands or finger (see what I did there? :) ). It's up to what should be trusted doctors.

Personally, I'd rather him sit out this week. I think all this is a smoke screen to keep St. Louis guessing, with the obvious intention that he'll be back by either Tampa or New York. But I like the fact he wants to play. Hopefully we have the management to make a wise decision based on what they're being told.

My concern would also be him taking snaps from center.
The Ball comes in hard and if he jams that finger.

Start Johnson. We don't know which Rams were going to get. If things go bad, and Romo can play, then try him out. But if Johnson starts and has a good quarter / first half, I don't see the point.

I have had this injury playing indoor flag football. I hit my hand on the wall on defense and broke the same bone. I proceeded to continue playing and catching two passes through the pain. It hurt like crazy, but the adreniline was pumping and kept me going. It's gonna be tough to manage that kind of pain. We'll see though.

Johnson should play. That is why we have him. I don't want Romo getting injured any further. With a good game plan we should beat the Rams with Johnson. If Johnson plays well you play Johnson again the next week at Tampa.

I know Romo wants to play with his new toys but man that is a big risk.
