This guy is running without ATO 9 months after injury.
The recovery is not yet complete, but he is slowly recovering

Running after getting out of my Carbon-AFO. This was 9 months after the initial injury. Dorsiflexion, and eversion were non-existent directly after injury due to blunt force trauma to the right knee, medial side, causing ACL, LCL ligament tears and the peroneal nerve to be crushed. 9 months later, the nerve has regenerated on its own and I am able to jog/run without AFO assistance. I am completely out of my brace at this time as well. Strength and range of motion is not fully recovered, but is slowly making progress. Notice the heel hitting on the right foot due to lack of RoM and strength. I am getting better every few weeks!

please excuse the embarrassing bad grammar on subject line!

note that this particular injury was more extensive than Jaylon's injury as the nerve was crushed.
Jaylon's nerve was only stretched.

we can all make our own guess regarding Jaylon, but my guess is that Jaylon is actually further along since injury to nerve was less severe.

Will believe he is ready when they come out and say he is on the active roster....all related stories are great, but they don't mean a darn thing until he is on the roster and is on the field making plays.

That guy should have a small tread mill beside him and his dog could walk with him.

Someone on here had the issue with a nerve and that's how they described it. Very gradual.

They likely are keeping his progress to themselves.

Many 'updates' from organization saying he is getting better all the time...
Kind of matches this guy's story.
Where is Jaylon now, someone mentioned that Jaylon, Gregory and Tapper had a 50 yard race, and Tapper smoked them.
We can take that for what it is worth.
We have ~Nov 22nd to put him on the roster or put him on IR?
I think it all depends on where they think he will get to by the end of the year and the injury situation of the entire team.

It's all great that he's recovering and everything, but he won't be playing until next season regardless of how good he feels.

I'm very optimistic about Jaylon Smith recovering from this injury. However even if the nerve completely heals this season I really do not think he could offer much in terms of production. I think heading into the off season with a full training camp that he can become an impact player I just do not feel he would be able to contribute much this year

The most important thing is that Jaylon recover as fully as possible without risking injury.

My personal bet is 20% he comes back at the end of this season and that is only because of what Gil Brandt and @birddog26 said.
I assume they have a personal assessment based on having dinner with Jaylon or inside vibe.

If he is fully recovered by then, I dont see why he does not play. We are a serious contender this year. Next year, we may not be in the same situation with the FAs looming in the secondary and wideouts. A worse injury bug may hit. One never knows.

Dr. Jerry's shaking the leg until it wakes up comment and the nerve just need to start firing comment led most of us to anticipate an on/off recovery.
All the info we have read from medical sources and recovery accounts is that it is a slow recovery after the nerve axons reach the muscle(s).

Tapper also runs a 4.5 Forty, which is blazing speed not just for his position, but for the average person.

My friend works at The Star. She says he's not coming back this season. I believe her over Internet speculation, since she talks to Stephen and Garrett at least once a week.

reports i saw of tapper is that he runs a 4.59.
though we all know 40 times have 0.1 sec ***** factor easily.
given jaylen's reported 40 time of 4.4 or so, tapper should not be able to smoke a 100% jaylen.

"smoke him" is subjective though. I could beat you in a foot race and say I "smoked" you, when I merely just beat you. If Tapper is beating Jaylon by a wide margin in short foot race, than Jaylon is further from being fully recovered than we think.

i was thinking the same thing, but i am quoting smoke and have no idea how badly it was...
it is certainly understandable a recovering foot drop person gets beat badly in a race
though gregory has no excuse, but gregory is likely done anyway given the latest likely failed test - unbelievable.

Maybe he could..

My reasons...

1. We play a simple defense..

2. He's been with the team and knows what to do..

3. Maliek Collins basically did it. He missed a lot of time and hit the ground running.

I would just say I would be happy if he could return but my expectation of him making a real impact would be minimal at best. I think heading into the offense and training camp fully healthy that he has a real chance to become an impact player for this franchise. I just hope if he can return this year that people cut him some slack if he is not looking like the great prospect he was billed as.

Hmmm, Jaylon has drop foot and is coming off a knee injury. Not sure when this race occurred but sounds somewhat doubtful.
