Is anyone familiar with this player or have watched him play?

I've since read the various draft information on him as we've drafted him.

I was wondering if anyone had more insight on him? I was a bit surprised we passed on Sidbury in the 4th and drafted him (esp after meeting with Sidbury). Clearly, we thought very highly of Butler versus other potential OLB/DE pass rushers.

He seems interesting as he led the Pac in sacks last season, and he had about 10 the season before (and not even as a starter).

Sidbury - read a couple of items that he didn't interview well with not only us but a few teams. If you have followed the combine/draft he was really flying up the charts, then come the draft he slides. Mayock stated on Sunday that he couldn't stop the run for anything and that really hurt him.

Butler - don't know anything about him, impressive that he led a major conference in sacks. I don't like Wade as a HC, but he does know LB's, so I trust his thoughts on this player.

You watch Oregon state much? How do you think he'll do when he is asked to drop back into coverage? Does he play the run well?

Have you seen him play often?

Or just your hunch?

I didn't know until I saw Alex's post in another thread that New England had him in for a visit. That's always a good sign.

He seems marginally big and fast enough to be a good pro, but I don't claim to know much about him. I wonder how he plays the run, anyone know?

We need to keep this thread bumped for people who have seen him more, like ilovesandt and summer.

I know Estridge was hating on our draft yesterday but he really liked this pick.

He gets to see the guy play every Saturday so im suire he knows what he is about.

he's one of those guys that get taken much higher than expected every year, and people are not quite sure why, only the team that drafts them knows

Hopefully our esteemed Dallas Cowboys journalists will pose the question (esp now that TO is gone . . . . ).

Wasn't it O-State that beat USC? How did he play against the Trojans if so? just curious.

Yes Oregon State was the team who beat USC. As for how he played specifically, I couldn't say.

I don't know how well he played, but I do have his stats for the game from the Oregon State Website. He supposedly had 5 tackles and 1 fumble recovery.

the thing about Butler is that he made alot happen for his mate Slade Norris, just by drawing the opposing O's attention

Scouting report I saw said that he is not particularly effective against the run and if he gets hung up he has a hard time disengaging. Had three sacksin Sunbowl versus PItt. Sounds like a 3rd down speicalist.
