Vikings keep Phil Loadholt with multi-year deal

Getty ImagesAfter trading their best wide receiver and cutting their best cornerback, the Vikings kept one of the top run-blockers.

According to Tom Pelissero of 1500ESPN.com, the Vikings agreed to a multi-year deal with right tackle Phil Laodholt moments before the start of free agency.

The Bears showed interest during the process, but the Vikings made progress today which resulted in the deal.

I find guys like Loadholt to be risky signings. He is a great run-blocker; however, he has just barely enough quickness in pass-protection. Any loss of speed/quickness due to age or injury could make him a huge liability in pass-protection. At 6-8, it might be difficult to move him to OG.

I'm not surprised at all. The Vikings like Loadholt and he was the team's number 1 priority sign in this off-season. I was pretty surprised by this as they had Harvin to sign as well. I guess what I was reading at the time was true.
