I know the moron is gone...and none more happy than myself...but someone just sent these to me...how did we hire a guy like this?
Things in italics are pulled from the OSU article by Paul Buker in the Oregonian...
Read can laugh now at the absurdity of the Cowboys - with all of their problems - targeting the special teams coach as the first to go.
Does this idiot not see why HE was let go?????
Read has been let go by the San Diego Chargers, the New York Giants, and the Dallas Cowboys and now he's back - for a third time - in Corvallis, working with college kids instead of professionals.
WHY did we hire him????
Bruce Read said he actually enjoys moving around, and he and his family had fun in San DIego, NY, and Dallas. ... he has put in seven years in the NFL and is fully vested in terms of pension, and says "one more contract'' will put him in a sweet financial position when he retires and can start collecting that NFL pension. ... being fired three times in the NFL hasn't left any visible scars on the guy.
Riley said that he values Read's opinion on special teams personnel so much, he was even sending him film to look at when Read was with the NY Giants. It was Read who convinced Riley to go after PK Jose Cortez, and P Sam Paulescu, and P Johnny Hekker.
Paulescu, incidently, became the Dallas punter after McBriar went down. ... McBriar's back, so Sam's days in Dallas are probably done.
I'm sorry...who the hell says this...
At one point in Dallas' lost season, two other assistants were assigned to help Read with special teams - LB coach Reggie Herring and safeties coach Brett Maxie. ... the move was perceived as being an example of how little confidence Wade Phillips had in Read. ... Read said that as far as he is concerned, he and Phillips have a decent relationship. .. Riley told me that several players rallied to Read's defense when he was getting killed by everyone, "and that doesn't happen very often in that league.''
What?
This is his defense:
Read said the special teams coach feels a particular kind of heat because he's dangling out there by himself. "It's the worst, because there's no other guy,'' he said. 'You're front and center, and you can never have a bad play. Every kicker should make every kick and every guy should tackle every guy. ... it's just you. And you've got these other guys who play for you and nobody knows who they are.'' ... until they make a catastrophic mistake
