Joshua, lol. I do like when kids get a chance to do something after they think they are done.

But I am not looking for him to be anything more than a body. Hope I am wrong and he turns into a great player.

That gem from Wade about 'we have been doing things right, but now we have to start doing them exactly right' is the reason I can't stand him anymore.

He just never sounds like he's ready to accept anything that says he's been underacheiving. His plan is always to throw out a preemptive strike before he goes about saying that things aren't all that great.

IMO, it's annoying. Just live in reality already Wade.

Say that last season the team was sloppy and that this year you hope to control that BS and get this team more focused from Monday until Saturday and then hopefully on Sunday it's a winning formula.

Why is it so hard for him to say that?

Jerry said this one little thing last year 'Romo friendly' and the media are still harping about it. I have a feeling Wade says alot to players but not to media.

I don't.

Like when he left them hanging after the Eagles game.

If nothing else, you have to see what he says at the end about Mike's show and Jonas Seawright.

Hey Lab, thanks for your thread. I am a humble servant who often transcribes and posts what Jerry, Wade, Goose Gosselin, etc. sez, off the Ticket or 105.3.

I missed the news conference ... and too lazy to sit through five minutes of the audio you posted! (Sorry kick me in the *** ...)

Could you or someone else kindly recap the high or low points?

That was clever, and original!

Anyway, for igt... Someone asked about Mike's show, and he said it was good that people got to see some behind the scenes action and how badly some of these guys want to play football. He said a few days ago we tried out this Seawright kid and, after his workout, he came up to us and was concerned that he didn't do very well and told us he knew he could do better. Wade said, well don't worry, you did well enough and we're going to sign you. He said tears started running down the kid's face -- not boo-hoo break down crying, but tears -- and said thank you coach, I've tried so hard and wanted so much to get back into football, and thanks for giving me a chance.

Like he said, it was just an example of how badly some of these kids want it.

I guess that is encouraging that they want it. I would hope we signed players like Seawright because we think they could compete and contribute and not because Phillips' heartstrings got tugged too hard.

That is what we need more of: kids who want it so bad they will run through walls.

They still need to be able to play and compete with the incumbents. There are lots of players who might want it bad and run through walls. Eventually they have to have enough talent too otherwise its a waste of time beyond giving fans the warm fuzzies. The plucky feel good story only goes so far.

Right, Vince Wilfork showed up to try out as Tim Anderson's replacement too, but we chose Seawright instead because he shed a tear.

Cripes, some of you will turn anything into a negative.

Wade Phillips likes ol' what's his name

Tim MacMahon E-mail News tips

Wade Phillips launched into a story about the Cowboys' newest addition when asked about the Michael Irvin reality show that will produce the 80th player on the team's training camp roster. Phillips was making a point about how much a chance to play in the NFL means to guys.

"We signed a kid the other day, Joshua Seawright," Phillips said. "We worked him out, and after we worked him out, he felt like he didn't do enough. He'd been out of football for two years, and he felt like he didn't do enough. He said, 'Coach, I can do better.' I said, 'Well, you did good enough to sign you. We're going to give you an opportunity.' Tears started rolling down his eyes. It was so important to him."

One little correction: The defensive tackle's name Jonas, not Joshua. If the head coach doesn't know your name, the odds of you making the team are probably pretty slim.

The 4th and Long winner's chances of surviving the final cut are somewhere south of slim, but I'll still watch the show on Spike. The action-packed premiere hooked me. Early favorite: Erick Jackson, the Duncanville product who played safety and special teams at Texas.

Actually, it's just more confirmation of how much he lifts from here. Hi Tim. You still suck.

That Romo friendly statement was incredibly unhelpful to ... Romo, but helped Jones (in his mind) publicly justify the TO sacking. IMO, that has nothing to do with Wade's inability to accept or learn from his and his teams' failures, which is why his teams' performances always deteriorate and why he can't win in a playoff scenario where all of his opponents are dedicated to learning from their mistakes in the regular season and are raising the intensity of effort, not carving out time for beach trips for their pampered stars.

I don't think that Wade is any different behind the scenes as a HC which is why players scoffed at Wade finally getting tough after another horrific collapse this past season. I've never heard of any player saying that Wade was tougher than he appears or that he even ran a tough practice.

I think one of the bloggers said they ran conditioning sprints this year that they did not do the previous two Camp Cupcakes.

All that can be said is that it is pointless to hope and pine away for a tougher Phillips. He's a softie and will continue to do so. He even stated he wasn't going to change. It would be phony and everyone would see it as such, so what purpose would it serve? Jerry Jones made this bed and we will have to endure it until it eventually is crystal clear he's not going to be the answer.

He's changed like he said he would: a little more gruff with the media (he doesn't giggle when they poke his belly now) and there has been an emphasis on ST with a few tweaks to the practice regiment.

Yeah I didn't expect any material change - purely a Pavlovian rant triggered by seeing his conciliatory butt back on stage again. My only hope is that Jerry does his usual 180 (far after the damage has been incurred) and hires a tougher coach at the end of the season. My fear is that he will do everything possible to avoid somebody (good) with a Jim or Tuna like personality that can stand up to him.

So he got that story from you...

Or he heard the same audio and actually chose to go in a whole different direction with it in pointing out that Wade used the wrong name for the kid?

:laugh2:

Or he saw CL's thread. Saw what CL pointed out specifically. Listened to the audio. Then posted his spiel.

Tim is a member here and I wouldn't doubt that he lifted his blog idea from this thread.
