Wade Philips Defense: Can He Do What He Did In SanDeigo?

With Wade Philips now calling the defense for the Cowboys, Can Wade turn this defense into what he did in SanDeigo?

I think the Cowboys have about as much talent as San Deigo does. Now, our secondary is a little banged up but our front seven has some big time players.

With that said, Can Wade Philips find the magic he did when he was with SanDeigo?

As a DC, there's no question regarding Cupcake's abilities. But, if he has to take over the D, he's going to have to give up some of the HC responsibilities. That will start to blur the lines. I hope it works out and this D explodes over the next nine games.

Well if the report from Mosley has any credibility, as it would seem a few here believe, then no he won't be able to because clearly Jerry Jones will be making the defensive play calls and he'll decide who does what on the field.

Outside of that, yes, I believe with him getting a more hands on approach and calling the plays that he can get this defense going in the right direction. At least I'm hoping he will.

I think Wade can do both but I also think Garrett may help out a little more.

IMO we have too many people hurt right now.

No Roy... No Spencer... No Newman... Maybe no Burnett... That's a lot of talent that's out right now. And for the most part their backups are no good (Keith Davis, Justin Rogers, Carpenter) or are rookies (Jenkins and Scandrick).

No matter how good a chess player you are, when you lose too many of your best pieces, you can't do much.

I agree with some of that but I don't think Scandrick, Jenkins or even Henry are as people think, it's more that our pass rush wasn't there.

Take away Ware's three sacks and what do you have?

A good pass rush will help out the secondary.

They were showing a play were Bulger had 7 seconds to throw the ball.

Tell that to the Giants who lost Strahan and Osenmenyiora, or however you spell his name... Tell that to the Giants last year when their secondary was bange dup going into the play-offs... I'm sorry... Who is hurt on the defensive line of the Cowboys?

 Like I said earlier, no way can Bulger have seven seconds to throw the ball.

A CB's best friend is a good pass rush.

Get a monster like Jamal Williams and you have a start...

Dallas has a premier pass rusher and good (not great) linebackers... the secondary would benefit as well.

Please define "San Diego magic" in terms of specifics. Explain in precise terms what San Diego did that we aren't seeing right now.

Lets face it. Our Coaching staff is

HC: Jerry Jones
DC: Phillips
OC: Garrett

That is much closer to the truth than anything else.

I'm not convinced our healthy secondary is really as good as san diegos. I like both of their corners more than both of ours. But really like people have said its the pass rush. We need to start getting pressure.
