I suppose he will start with daily pat the head, rub the stomach 2 things at once drill............

Or not use hima s the deep safety all the time so he can play to his strengths.

Watkins needs to get better or be replaced if anyone. He played better but we absolutely need a FS that can cover for this defense to play to its potential.

Thats the prob Fuzz since he has been here he is always hurt. Even healthy he gets burned way to much.

Case n point Lloyd from SF last year.

Agreed. If Phillips can improve our virtually non-existing pass rush, Henry's and Newman's INTs will go up noticeably, imo. With a year under his belt, I hope that Watkins will benefit from a better pash rush also.

I don't get it. 18 months ago before he was hurt during in the '06 season many on this board were calling him our "best corner" and Defensive MVP, etc.... What happened?

True, Williams is a force playing closer to the line of scrimmage, but he will still have to play deep in certain packages. I believe that Phillips can improve that aspect of his game.

The media proclaimed that but you can go read my old posts about him. Other than James Henry is our weakest link. His hips are too slow for playing CB. He is good in coverage but lacks the speed to play CB anymore. Teams threw at him on 3rd downs so much is was automatic.

Summer and I never agreed on terms. My own little world is a clever ploy to isolate that this belief is only held by me. That is not true because I am not the only one who realizes he is no good.

He had issues with Lloyd because he was trying to play through the groin injury.

When he wsant in there it was someone else having issues. If hes healthy play him and if hes not sit him. If healthy hes better than any other alernative we have.

Name the all pro secondary of the SB champs. How many made the pro bowl. Why does the team have to have all pros at every position in the DB field. The front 7 is key to the 34 not the back 4. Our D was the worst on 1st down and fading fast on 3rd down.

Although I don't mind moving Henry to safety if a better CB can be found, I think the hiring of Phillips bodes well for him to stay at corner.

Phillips seems to like running bump-and-run coverage with his corners, which plays to Henry's strength.
