See our offense last year or the Patriots in the Super Bowl. The team absolutely could have rallied in the playoffs, and performed pretty well against Seattle in a game where Tony was bad and the offense put them in bad situations. So you never know. I'm not denying the job Wade has done, but it's not like he was taking over the 2008 Lions defense. That was a defense that had played very well for the majority of the previous season. Obviously the ability was there.
You missed it.theogt;2495870 said:Or not.
Thinking that defense would have played well after those final 6 games is "missing it."superpunk;2495873 said:You missed it.
It's just as reasonable as thinking it would be impossible. Wake up. They had already shown the ability, then they bounced back and performed well in the playoffs. There's no need to oversell what Wade has done. It's impressive. But it still isn't anything more than was accomplished before he got here. He's the head coach, not the defensive coordinator. Therefore there's no reason to write his name in as head coach again next year. Because he hasn't done anything yet.theogt;2495876 said:Thinking that defense would have played well after those final 6 games is "missing it."

We are still not even in the playoffs yet.
And why did it take so long for the doofus to take over the defense? He's been here for two years and now we are getting the dominant defense. They should have been much better long before now.
And any head coach who continues to put Cory Procter in the starting lineup isn't going to get any votes from me.
And don't forget the Giants were playing without Burress and Jacobs.
I would much rather give the defensive players more credit for playing 'smarter' recently. Plus Newman is back. Plus Spencer is now healthy. Plus James is playing out of his mind.

Again, the Defense has been pretty good but:
1) Seattle, Pittsgurgh and the 49ers are in the 20 somethings in Total Offense
2) We brought Wade Phillips here to fix the defense and win Playoff Games
I just don't think you can come out and emphatically say Wade Phillips should be off the hotseat and his job should be guranteed at this point.
He has this team in the right direction but if he doesn't win a Playoff Game, especially when we are seeing the demise of the Giants right before our eyes, I don't see how he can keep his job.

But he's not a head coach. Period.
So where do you go with that...I don't know. I haven't sleep a wink all night...
That's the problem. I just cant do it. It shouldnt take Jerry running his mouth for it to happen. This is why he cant keep a job as a head coach cause he cant keep his coaches or players in check. Anybody forgot that we lead the league in penalties? That's on the coach.utrunner07;2496814 said:I agree wade should stay but I just hope he is smart enough to get rid of Bruce and maybe Stewart. If he does I think he may be here longer than just one more year.
Slashar00;2497355 said:Bill Parcells did a good job putting this defense together. He really built the foundation for it. But that's a paper tiger unless you know how to coach it too.
Under Parcells we had the most underperforming defense in the league. Currently, Wade has them OVER-achieving.
The reason why Parcells quit coaching for good is because the game passed him by. Those are his words, not mine. Parcells is still a good talent evaluator. And there is perhaps no one better than him to take a crap team and make them decent in a single heart beat.
Detroit needs to take that government bailout money and offer it to Parcells to fix the Lions.
