It's impossible to tell. The team that performs at the same level throughout a 19-20 game season is rare, or nonexistant. See our offense last year or the Patriots in the Super Bowl. The team absolutely could have rallied in the playoffs, and performed pretty well against Seattle in a game where Tony was bad and the offense put them in bad situations. So you never know. I'm not denying the job Wade has done, but it's not like he was taking over the 2008 Lions defense. That was a defense that had played very well for the majority of the previous season. Obviously the ability was there.

Thinking that defense would have played well after those final 6 games is "missing it."
It's just as reasonable as thinking it would be impossible. Wake up. They had already shown the ability, then they bounced back and performed well in the playoffs. There's no need to oversell what Wade has done. It's impressive. But it still isn't anything more than was accomplished before he got here. He's the head coach, not the defensive coordinator. Therefore there's no reason to write his name in as head coach again next year. Because he hasn't done anything yet.

Wade can't stay as head coach. I think most here would welcome him as DC with a real HC, but pride wouldn't allow him to go where he belongs.

* we had 11 penalties yesterday

* after taking our largest lead we had untimely ST penalty (on a return), another penalty taking us back to a precarious position. Next play is a Safety - which appears to be a miscommunication. if the giants weren't nicked up or if they were at home that might have turned a WIN into a LOSS. All coaching.

* TO tries to get cute and make a cut missing 1st down. Wade will say this is on wade. Poor coaching

* Many, typical wade-run-club mental mistakes.

It's a pity Jerry didn't bring Wade in as a DC. He's elite as a DC.

But he's not a head coach. Period.

So where do you go with that...I don't know. I haven't sleep a wink all night...

Relax.

We are still not even in the playoffs yet.

And why did it take so long for the doofus to take over the defense? He's been here for two years and now we are getting the dominant defense. They should have been much better long before now.

And any head coach who continues to put Cory Procter in the starting lineup isn't going to get any votes from me.

And don't forget the Giants were playing without Burress and Jacobs.

I would much rather give the defensive players more credit for playing 'smarter' recently. Plus Newman is back. Plus Spencer is now healthy. Plus James is playing out of his mind.

I remember people claiming that we Texans didn't like Parcells because he was a Jersey guy who talked funny. Looks to me like the same thing is happening now in reverse.

Why not?

Again, the Defense has been pretty good but:
1) Seattle, Pittsgurgh and the 49ers are in the 20 somethings in Total Offense
2) We brought Wade Phillips here to fix the defense and win Playoff Games

I just don't think you can come out and emphatically say Wade Phillips should be off the hotseat and his job should be guranteed at this point.

He has this team in the right direction but if he doesn't win a Playoff Game, especially when we are seeing the demise of the Giants right before our eyes, I don't see how he can keep his job.

If our defense plays at a high level than this teams chances of winning on a weekly basis are very high.

As long as we are playing defense at a high level Wade Phillips should never leave because Dallas's offense will be potent for yeeeeaaars.

Wade Phillips can coach.....you don't get to do what he has done with defenses over and over again......widthout getting your players to believe in you:(

WHat WP needs is to also be able to have an control over the offense.....:)

and you would see a ship being righted with one leader setting the direction:eek: not the kaos that is so noted on offense........

and yes, if you can build a defense.........you can certainly dissect it.......

IMHO.....;)

Unless we win the Super Bowl, no dice. no soap. no way.

When the Giants scored in the fourth quarter, I could just feel the fans at the stadium say "oh, no" under their collective breaths.

Had the Cowboys lost, we'd be under a Wade Watch today as to whether he'd be out.

With two crucial games remaining, he is not out of the woods.
And with the playoffs around the corner, it looks like an early out with Wade at the helm.

And Cowher never said in Sunday's pre-game NFL show that he is not available.

Wait until the end of the Cowboy's season and then assess him, not before.
And if you'd rather have Wade than Cowher on the sidelines, then nothing I can say will convince you otherwise.

Wade is not the man to take us and win at the Super Bowl.
Bank on it.

I've never really had an issue with Wade. From an in game coach stand point he has never really had a real glaring error. His love from the players and dumb facial expressions after missed FGs(looking like he just found a slice of cake) aren't very coach like, but as long as the defense plays like it has the last few weeks I don't think he's that bad.

I agree wade should stay but I just hope he is smart enough to get rid of Bruce and maybe Stewart. If he does I think he may be here longer than just one more year.

That's the problem. I just cant do it. It shouldnt take Jerry running his mouth for it to happen. This is why he cant keep a job as a head coach cause he cant keep his coaches or players in check. Anybody forgot that we lead the league in penalties? That's on the coach.

Anybody that thinks Parcells built this defense is smokin' crack...

The defense Parcells built was a Bradie James at like 245 lbs, meant to take on OL head-on. The defense that Parcells built didn't have Ratliff at NT, and had him as a back-up DE. Remember, Canty, Hatcher and Bowen weren't sniffing the QB in base packages, which were the hall-mark of the Parcells schemes.. the defense that Parcells built.

Does anybody stop to think:

Hell, maybe Wade as a coach makes players better??? What did Marcellus Wiley do when he left his coach???

Also, Spencer, Hamlin. Jenkins, Scandrick are pieces that were built by Wade, not Parcells. The packages that have Henry at safety are the defense Wade built. Hell, if we get Adam Jones back, the defense will be even more baller. The press coverage that we are doing is because of this secondary. The defense Parcells built was cover-2 protect against the deep ball. How many times did we blame the free safety during the time of Parcells, whcih resulted in losses. We have Keith Davis freakin' starting right now, and are using Henry and Alan Ball extensively. Wade is using different players all over the place... That surely isn't a defense Parcells built...

And anybody that says this defense hasn't done anythin against good teams, just needs to look at how many sacks this defense has gotten against the Giants offensive line, compared to the rest of the league...

The scheming of this defense is light-years beyond what Parcells has ever implemented. It isn't even close...

Yeah, maybe Wade needs to be a little bit more authoritative... But this defense is Wade's defense... And seriously...

Wade has gotten two drafts... I really want to see the defense Wade will build in year 3...

I'm glad I looked around before starting this thread. I couldn't agree with this thread more, you took the words right out of my mouth.

The only thing that irks me about Wade and the defense this season is that he wasn't controlling the defense from the get go. When he came to Dallas he said the defense was his job. I guess he's too nice of a guy and kept giving more and more responsibility to his pal Stewart.

With that said, I finally understand why Wade is one of the most sought after defensive coordinators around. He is brilliant. This is the best defense we have had since the Super Bowl years, bar none.

We are simply DOMINATING even without stellar offensive play. I can't believe anyone would disagree with this. It's been all Wade ever since he took the reigns.

Wade is 22-8 as Dallas' head coach.

1-2 without Romo.

21-6 with Romo.

If we can bring in someone who could improve on that, sure. But is there really someone out there better?

Bill Parcells did a good job putting this defense together. He really built the foundation for it. But that's a paper tiger unless you know how to coach it too.

Under Parcells we had the most underperforming defense in the league. Currently, Wade has them OVER-achieving.

The reason why Parcells quit coaching for good is because the game passed him by. Those are his words, not mine. Parcells is still a good talent evaluator. And there is perhaps no one better than him to take a crap team and make them decent in a single heart beat.

Detroit needs to take that government bailout money and offer it to Parcells to fix the Lions.

I'll give Phillips credit but I also think some players are coming into their own and learning to play together, both of those things come in time.

Maybe the Lions should hire both Parcells and Phillips. Parcells buys the groceries and Phillips cooks the meal.:)
