Seems they flipped more toward the draft and low tier FA's when McClay took over a bigger role, and now is basically the defacto GM. Not that he actually could influence Stephen on paying more for a top FA. You are right, it is the way of the draft. Which they make some very questionable moves at times also. Such as drafting injured players, reaching for players, then give us a spin as to why.
Agents also generate a significant amount of fake rumors. - They have relationships with media people and get them to link their clients to the Cowboys.
When will we realize the salary cap is not a concern, it goes up every year like inflation.. . Don't want to orange pill any of you here. The cap rises every year, you can always adjust your contracts going forward as long as you want to keep the player. Only dumb teams havent figured that yet. Yes I would mortgage the future for a SB, we would be idiotic not to. It's just a statement, I don't see even a player like that available for this organization.
It's pretty much all we've got now. I admit that I keep clicking on here with a glimmer of hope that something great will happen, even though I know better. I feel like the fish that keeps getting hooked by an artificial lure.
Signing these three would catapult this team. We would instantly have a better defense, full of leaders and top talent, young and old. We can sign these three guys and go all offense in the draft. Why wouldn't you make a push right now? I think we have a couple more years of this contract with Dak, with two all pros on rookie deals, a laughably bad division and conference... It's just right in front of us
Since we are dreaming here: If we were going to sign just one of these three players, which one would you want? For me, it would be Wagner. He's healthy and still playing at a high level and would allow us to make Parsons practically a full-time pass rusher. That would eliminate the need for Smith. Then, on the back end, I can live with Hooker at free safety if it came down to getting either Wagner or Mathieu.
Agreed - Wagner would be ideal Smith - If healthy, would be a big upgrade over Gregory. A true disruptor at DE - However, I'm scared of his back issues. Mathieu - while he is a play maker, he doesn't have the size that DQ likes at the S position - so not sure how that plays out.
I'm not sure that size matters as much to Quinn at free safety. He had Earl Thomas while in Seattle and brought in Kazee last year. Both of them are under 6 foot. I think he likes having taller strong safeties so that he can move them around more like a chess piece.
I think Quinn gets that rep because LOB were huge but I don’t think he’s turning down talent in size…..
Mathieu is the only real possibility. If there have been any legit reports that link Dallas to players (like Smith and Wagner) then they are absolutely not coming here. When Dallas actually does sign outside free agents nothing is leaked beforehand.
Most of the “interest” is just click bait They have an interest in most FA, just like most teams do. But they also have a budget that limits who you can get at full market price, just like most teams do I have no doubt they’d love Wagner but not at a price that will actually get him
My biggest surprise is why wouldn't Jerry make that push. He'll be 80 in Oct. Each day he gets closer to that dirt nap. Who cares where the Cowboys will be 5 years from now with the cap...he may not even be here.
I highly doubt the Cowboys would sign all 3, but that would be quite the haul. It's crazy how much misinformation is flying around.
i would even accept a Robert Quinn type late round conditional trade if that would be what it take to get that middle ground splash player that has ability to get us to another level ... per defense, per offense. But that kind of trade is just not a given year in year out, and we're seeing playoff and SB contenders making that risky vet middle ground splash and push But as many have said it's about the sheer philosophy of NFL draft, re-sign own core players, and bargain binge the leftovers.,, .
