Wait a second. Ware isn't All Pro?

Both Matthews and Harrison made more plays that impacted the outcome of games than Ware did. They both deserved to be there ahead of Ware. It's also hard to for a defensive player to make an All Pro team when his team gave up a record amount of points and failed to make the playoffs.

Way too many factors in the game of football to say for certain one player had a better year than another.

Different opponents
Different defense, and strength of your defense

So many things go into it. Why can't we just say they both had very good years and be done with it? One just HAS to have had a better year than the other?

I am curious- was Mathews at DL in college; like Ware who had to make the transition?

I've had this conversation with a lot of Cowboy fans. He has a GREAT motor but his coverage skills are subpar. He was a great player on a contender. Respect.
He had 4 passes defended, Ware had 1 and they both had 1 INT. To say he has bad coverage skills means that Ware's must be awful.

The thing about Matthews vs. Ware to me, is that DeMarcus had times where he disappeared. Matthews always found a way to be a factor. There's no stats for that, but it's what I saw.

and ware still had a TE doubling him all night while mattews went straight up with justice and all his sacks came against kolb just like ware
I couldn't care less about the argument but Ware was not doubled by the tight end all night, one of the sacks was against the tight end #82 blocking Ware by himself. at least be honest about it.

In all seriousness, take away Ware's last three game against pathetic Washington (Grossman) and Arizona (Skelton) teams and Philly's third team and he has fewer than 10 sacks.

Sure Ware's numbers look good at the end of the season, but where was he in weeks 6-14 (3.5 sacks) when the season was on the line?

I love me some Ware, but he had a very inconsistent season. Do you think he would say he had an All-Pro season?

Winning the sack title and getting left off Sporting News' All-Pro Team is fairly common. Below is a list of players who have been similarly snubbed.

2005 Derrick Burgess* (Rob Ryan's defense)
1998 Michael Sinclair*
1996 Kevin Greene
1994 Kevin Greene
1993 Neil Smith
1992 Clyde Simmons
1985 Richard Dent
1983 Mark Gastineau
1982 Doug Martin*

The asterisk is for winners of the sack title who missed both Sporting News and Associated Press 1st team All-Pro. Only three times since sacks have been an official stat has the sack leader for a particular year failed to be named either 1st team AP All-Pro or Sporting News All-Pro for that year. And none of those 3 players (Burgess, Sinclair, or Martin) ever made 1st team All-Pro in any year.

Ware, OTOH, has been 1st team All-Pro for the last 3 years running. If he doesn't make AP All-Pro this time, it would be the first time ever a player even approaching his caliber won a sack title and was so snubbed.

No, I would not. He'll bounce back next year, but he did not have an All-Pro season this year.

yep, ware disappeared for half the season.

Matthews minus the first 2 games has 7.5 sacks on the year

Weeks 6-14 had 4 sacks

Since he missed 1 game and had a bye in that time add week 15-16 and he had 4 sacks

Here we go again :lmao:

Why are we not counting the 1st two games for Matthews? That's like saying, if we subtract Ware's 3 sack game against King Dunlap, and subtract Ware's 2 sacks and 1 FF against Rex Grossman, he wouldn't have won the sack record.

Why is he subtracting 3 games for Ware? I replied to his post where he subtracted games so I took 2 away as well

He was speaking of the level of talent in those games, and the meaningless feeling behind them. Our last three games had no implications on the playoffs for us or for our opponents.

LMAO so you make up reason why its ok to remove Wares games yet balk at me doing the same for Matthews :laugh1:

Those first 2 games didnt have any playoff implications either

Point is he removed games to try and put Matthews on the same level as Ware.

I took 2 away to show how ridiculously far apart they really were the last 14 weeks of the season

No games should be subtracted, okay? With that being said, I just think Matthews had more of an impacting year. There were times when I thought to myself during games, "Where is Ware?" or, "When is Ware going to make a play?" And he never did. He's a great player, but for HIS standards, he had a down year. To his credit, when the Cowboys were out of the race, he kept playing, and he won the sack record in the final three games, whether they were meaningless or not. But Ware is supposed to be the franchise's best player, and I don't think he warranted that title in 2010.

Good now we are back to Ware just being slightly better overall

Be honest how many full Green Bay games did you see this season

Fans are always more critical of players on their own team they see someone getting a bit of pressure and get mad he cant get there all of the sudden he never makes plays, yet when they watch highlights of another player they always seem to be getting to the QB So he must be better

I have the NFL ticket so I pretty much saw every one of their games. He was all over the field, and someone that you had to account for every play. I rarely saw him being blocked one on one.

When you say slightly better overall; what does that mean? What does "better" mean? All I'm saying is, Matthews had a more impacting year. I saw more big plays from Matthews in big game situations. Less sacks doesn't mean Ware had a better year than him. One poster said Derrick Burgess led the league in sacks one year, but was he the best defensive player in the NFL that year? Probably not.

There were times where I was waiting for our playmaker in Ware to make a play, and that play never came. Whether that was attributed to injury or the players around him, we'll never know.

Why is Matthews dominant? Due to the players around him; or does Matthews make everyone else look better? Probably a combination of the two.

So you watched Green Bay games instead of Cowboys since they both started at the same time most weeks.

I watched Ware every game this year and I watch him pressure the QB consistently and throw on a sack here and there then after the game I hear people say he disappeared and didnt do anything.

Thats what fans seem to do they always look at players on their team more critically than players on other teams
