I took up straight-razor shaving almost a year ago on a whim.
My only recollection of my father was of him shaving with one and I guess it stuck with me.

I played it "smart"- I did my research and bought one "shave-ready". Professionally honed, but incredibly cheap.
$15 cheap as a matter of fact, but it truly was shave-ready and I began my adventure down the rabbit-hole of antiquated shaving.

11 months later I can say I still do it, although I alternate between that and my safety-razor (which I also love) in that the blade I have takes a serious amount of effort to maintain it's edge.

I had it professionally resharpened recently and it came back with a note from the sharpener suggesting I get a higher quality blade.

Serendipitously- I was fortunate enough to have a decent inflow of unexpected money and I have decided to treat myself:
I would like to invest in a very good (maybe two) shaving implement.

I already enjoy the ritual of stropping and honing.
I love the feel of a good, hot thick lather.
This has become something I truly look forward to in the morning after a run and a shower.
It's a spiritual cool-down I guess you could say.
I only lack a truly good blade to finish and complete the package.

I like the traditional strait-edge, but I've been interested in a Japanese kamisori also.

Anybody have any suggestions? I googled, but it wasn't much help.
I've been doing some reading, but I really would like to hear from someone I'm at least a little familiar with that has had any experience on the subject.

Not into straight razors but I do have a quite a few high quality knives and get most of my info when I'm ready to make a purchase from bladeforums and checking just now they do have a straight razor section http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php/785-Razors-Scissors-amp-Personal-Grooming and you could probabl;y get better info asking on there. Here's what one of the main sites I buy from has in straight razors http://www.bladehq.com/cat--All-Items--1--1--search=straight+razor?x=0&y=0 Hope this helps

Wife got me a safety razor kit a few months ago and I love using it. Makes the whole experience far more pleasurable and has helped with ingrown hairs, which I was having a lot of issues with using one of those 100 blade razors.

Never really considered a straight razor, although I love the idea of them.

The Wicked Edge subreddit on Reddit.com has a decent population of straight razor users. So you might want to swing by there for a look.

I started using the single blade razors I had a lot of issues with ingrown hairs and its helped a lot out there. I'd probably inadvertently commit suicide if I attempted a straight razor.
