This is awesome. Loved the fact that they talked about playing in the Cowboys system versus creating set plays. Opening the playbook more and using different looks on offense like the option to run. Despite what some think Jerry and Garrett aren't "football dumb"

Don't see how this demonstrated football smarts. Answer was very obvious and predictable. In fact, it showed they had the same perception that moved him to the 4th round. Thought he may struggle to adapt to typical NFL system, potentially a shot-gun only passer and a good runner. That was the book on him coming out of college and pushed him to round 4.

I'm cautiously excited about the future with Dak. I'm not expecting him to be Peyton Manning, but if he can just get a little better each season, we might be onto something.

P.S. I wish we could see more footage like this during the draft, love the insight.

I think people question other things about Garrett, and even Jones.

But of course they have actual football knowledge in varying degrees.
Garrett could probably tell us every offensive and defensive scheme and formation for all 32 teams...lol.

Now how and when to apply that knowledge?
Some may question that.
But nobody can (or should) question that he has the actual knowledge. Kind of a water is wet type no-brainer.

And btw, the MSU and Cowboys coaches have all said that there are striking similaries in the Cowboys and Miss St offensive sets. MSU just also ran read-option off of it, and Dak operated in the shotgun. But most of the sets and reads were very similar.

Red Ball is the perfect example on why intelligence is not everything.

No
The overlap in his college system...like Garrett said...was very high with Dallas' own sets and reads.
He just did it out of the shotgun.
MSU's system was not as simple as some think.

My read on their conversation: I have to give Garret credit for selling him to Jerry. IMO Jerry didn't look at all enamored with DP throughout even during the phone call to DP. I think Linehan also played a large role in convincing Jerry. Thank goodness that panned out.
All that said, I'm going to be looking for a little bit of a sophomore slump since all the opposing DC's have a full season of tape on him.
Given who Dak is, I have all the confidence he'll be just fine. Go Dak!!

One thing I have noticed is that no one mentioned Dak's DUI. I guess everyone figured that was just a one off.

Now those claiming somehow the boys were really smart about Dak are full of it. The boys made it clear that they would have grabbed Cook if he had been available; if they did that then no Dak. So that means that they had Cook rated higher than Dak by a fair margin. Just goes to show you what a lottery the draft really is. Cook looks like nothing so far.

we got lucky. Simple as that. Just like with Tony. Getting an elite QB without using a high pick or lots of cap space.

We definitely got lucky no doubt, but I also think part of draft preparation is knowing what other teams think about players and where they rank them. If they had intel that everyone had Dak rated as a top 50 player maybe they use their 2 on him. I think teams are getting a lot better handle on this info thats why you'll see a team leapfrog a team in the 3rd round to grab a player they think won't drop a few more spots to them.

Not just Cook, but they almost traded up for Lynch, who is not a sure bet to start in Denver yet.

A lot of teams missed on Prescott and he had a rookie season that was basically incredible. If he develops into a Russell Wilson level starter and maintains that level, then you are talking about Dallas being smart.

But only because he had some fans on the coaching staff, like Wade Wilson. I have been pretty critical of him over the years, but he has a hand in keeping him on the team's radar.
