Ware, on a 1yr "farewell tour, thank you" deal would be great.

But he may still want big $$. Never know.

You can only hope that the way we handled his situation at the end of his time here went a long way in his feelings toward the organization.

Can't bank on it though.

Yeah... getting a huge fan favorite, role model citizen, future hall of famer with super bowl experience at a position we sorely need is such a bad idea.

Sometimes, you can't go home again. Nostalgia is one thing, reality is another.

No, actually I don't "know this" at all. What I do know is the fact that he's breaking down, has been repeatedly injured, and is producing less and less each year. What's most "realistic" is that he stays in Denver in a 3-4 defense, and finishes up his Hall of Fame career there.

You may have that opinion, but don't get your hopes up.

I do think it's more realistic that he stays in Denver. If he hits the open market though, there would be a ton of mutual interest.

The only way Ware returns to play here, is if they screw up the draft and come away without any of the top DE's. By screw up, i mean the draft doesn't fall their way according to their draft board. Other than trading up without giving up too much.

As well, none of the current injured surgery recover players pan out. Which is highly likely given this teams track record and bad luck.

So wait until TC and see where we are. I don't want to say he is a progress stopper, as we need players to have their progress stopped...LOL...but we do have some young developing players, but still need that blue chip performance guy. I can't see one in our current group. I am tired of saying one will emerge. It's been too long.
This is why we need a true DL coach.

Normally teams try to shore up holes on the roster before the draft, though.

If they have a chance to get Ware on a reasonable 1 yr contract, then I'd take him in a heartbeat.

I would hope the coaches would be wise enough to restrict him to limited use though. His age, injury history, and the high intensity Rod demands from his guys is not a recipe for an every down guy.

As much as I'd love to accommodate Ware, I'd rather invest our resources in a young DE who could stick around for another decade. I seriously doubt he'd be willing to play for Dallas for modest compensation, although if he would, it'd be hard to refuse. I'd still draft a rookie DE, tho.

I'm not so sure. With Tyron Smith, Chaz Green, Demarcus Lawrence, and Charles Tapper, this team has too many back issues as it is.

I love Ware the player, the person, and the Cowboy and would love to be able to wear one of the three #94 jerseys I still have in the closet.

But the reality of the situation is that he's getting injured on a regular basis, just had back surgery, and will still want to get paid. And I'm not Big on paying a player good money for a poor track record of injury, while also taking up a valuable roster space for a player very likely to be unavailable for what could be a large part of the season.

Time waits for no one.

I really hope this doesn't happen.

His 4 sacks would have tied for third on this team, despite the 6 games he missed.

I obviously don't want to pay him a ton, nor do I want signing him to mean we adjust our plans, but I think he can be cheap and effective if used in a rotation

For nostalgia reasons it would be great to have him.

However, since he left the team he has only gotten older and has been injured more.

This is a trap contract. It will be a real test for the front office.

The premise of Schefter's report is that Ware is leaving the door open for a return to Dallas.

Considering Wade Phillips is gone and his comments last year at this time regarding how he wanted to win a Super Bowl here make this a very realistic report. That is not really debatable.

Will Dallas be interested? Who knows? I think they will be looking to find a couple affordable role players and focus on the draft, Ware could fit their price range. You obviously don't think they will be interested.

The only part I find "not debatable" is the part about a player agent using whatever leverage they can get - real or imagined - in an attempt to maximize their client's earning potential. If Denver is the only suitor, Ware will have to take whatever they offer. If they claim that Dallas is interested or he's open to a return there, that gives the impression of a demand for his services. That's exactly what's going on here.

Nor do I think that Ware can be had for a song like many fans want to believe.

3rd and long. 350 snaps a year. Does nothing for your draft plans

3rd and long rusher he could still be effective. He is a better pass rusher still than any edger we have right now, including Lawrence.

Trade Romo, sign Ware, trade up for Takk

The recent philosophy of the Cowboys has no problem sighing a veteran and then drafting a player at the same position high in the draft. See last year when we brought in Morris and still drafted Elliott as an example. If Ware returns, getting an edge rusher early in the draft will still remain a high priority.

I am trying my hardest to not play "Madden" here, but if he is willing to sign a one-year relatively cheap deal, where is the harm?

I don't think it would change their draft strategy, still targeting pass rushers, but at #28 are we going to get a guy that is going to get us 8-10 sacks? And why wouldn't all our young guys benefit from being tutored from one of the best pass rushers in NFL history?

I don't see us going after JPP or any other FA that would be better.

If he only plays in the nickel package, the strain on his back would limited.
