If people need an exhibit to toss in muh face to show just how much coaching matters, exhibit A is Ted Cottrell and Norv Turner. These two have destroyed the identity of the Chargers, and have not attempted to give them a new one. Their confidence is shot, in themselves, and the coaching staff. THAT is what a bad coaching staff can do to a team, or look to the Raiders last year. In game, their plan might be pretty good - but the players can't carry it out, or don't feel like it.

Trolling some Bolts sites, it's hilarious to see all the "What are Phillips/Merriman doing out in coverage all the time" threads that we were bombarded with about Ware last year.

They both have 3 sacks ..... but Ware does so much more. The kid is involved in almost every play.

Ware vs Merriman? I did not know they were competing aginst each other. Dallas got the guy they wanted and SD got the guy they wanted and it seems to be working out for both end of story.

You can see the contrast on this one, as you can with any incompetent staff that is replaced by competence. Turner and Cottrell just have no clue what they want to do, or how to do it.

That is, however, not what happened here last year.
