Why more sacks?

Ware would have to be an absolute lucky monster to contend with Suggs' rookie stats because Suggs played in a defense where the offense had to account for other special players before him. Suggs is just better than average.

I prefer comparisons to Dwight Freeny-- but even Freeney as a rookie could pin his ears back and rush QB's who were trying to come from behind.

Still, Freeney has grown as a player and has become the leader of his defense while Suggs has dropped off the map now that most of the once special players on Baltimore's defense have either faded, left, or gotten injured.

When you face Dallas' defense you must account for:

1) DeMarcus Ware
2) Laroi Glover
3) Roy Williams

...on every play.

I think he has Ware for nine sacks, right? (Formatting is a little tough to read.)

But yep, Suggs was only a part time player as a rookie, and he got to just do nothing but rush the QB. I've always thought his 19 tackles for the entire year was an embarrassment for a ROY.

I didn't realize until I looked that he only has 1.5 sacks this year. Looks like Ware is having a far better year than the Almighty One. ;)

I'd be happy with Ware if he hit 9 sacks on the year. I expect him to pile it on in the 2nd half of the season though, he's only going to get better.

Freeney is great player but it also helps if the offense is scoring 30+ points and the opposite teams have to abandon the run all together. He could go after the QB on every play. Again not saying anything less of Freeney, he is a great player

Good observation. I agree Freeney is a very good player but I would agree he benifets from his offense getting big leads in the game

Did you also hear about Indy's DL coaching? They tell their D-linemen to rush the passer on EVERY play. And if it turns out to be a run play, they can meet the the RB on the way to to QB.

This is total opposite of way our D-linemen are coached. We tell our D-linemen to play the run first then rush the QB.

No wonder Indy leads the NFL in sacks.

Teams are doing lots of 3 receiver sets to keep Ware off the line. Thats respect for a rookie. We just need someone like Spears to start getting the pocket to collapse a bit.

I agree. Spears is going to continue to improve. He missed a lot of training camp and is just now starting to get a feel for what he's doing.

Recently, I've noticed him getting close to the QB on a few plays. Most of what he does isn't readily noticable and I think he's been doing a fine job... but he does need to start getting to the QB.
