I think Woody might make a pretty good broadcaster, but I think it would be great if we could get him on the sidelines coaching the secondary.

Woodson was an excellent S for many years and very good in his latter years. So yes, obviously someone that good at their position is going to mean a whole lot to the success of the team.

The problem we've had since Woodson was injured/retired is we're trying to replace him with players who in most cases shouldn't be on the field. As much as everyone dogs RW for his lack of coverage skills, he's BY FAR the best S we've had since Woody in pass coverage. That tells the whole story. The fringe talent we're trying to get by with simply isn't going to cut it. The team needs a legit athletic FS who is used to playing in pass coverage. No more STs players suddenly learning the position or SS in college trying to learn how to play in pass coverage.

Woody was the unquestioned leader of the D - and perhaps the team after the triplets left - and his absence has left a huge void.

Now Woody was no Charlie Waters, but what he did bring to the team was invaluable. He wasn't the best FS the Cowboys have ever had, but his ability to breakdown offenses - both on film and during thegame - put him and other DB's in the best postion top make a play. An absolutely fantastic player.

After Waters/Harris, Woody should bne the next inductee in the Ring.

I miss him more as a player than Troy, Emmitt, or Irvin.

:hammer: we never prepare for these things to happen. in woody's case we got Roy, but then we put Roy alongside a bunch of scrubs who shouldnt even be in the league(starters at the FS spot).

It may be a problem of the new era, but the Cowboys don't seem to do well at having players ready to step in when cornerstones like Woodson go down. I certainly was worried a year before he had to quit. Back injuries are bad too. And just wishing real hard won't make things work. Replacing Emmitt, replacing Aikman, even Novacek, and so on, no one around to step up. And it was not like these things weren't obvious. Perhaps it was just the personnel miscues, but....

Now they had Roy to step in for Mr. Woodson, but that left the free safety position a gaping void.

What's that song about not knowing what you got til its gone? If we had a free safety with half the stuff of Darren Woodson.....

Remember John Madden use to talk about Woody being a LB with his speed and converted to Safety everytime he did our game? Carnell Lake did this as well. Woody is all that and a bag of chips including the dip.

Woody was simply AWESOME.... He did it all, ran the defense, covered, banged heads, and got pics... Lord knows we miss him... Oh yeah, class act on and off the field too..

Its funny but it seems like since Woody is gone the D went south.I mean 2003 Defense was so dependable.what are some of your thoughts why?i mean Zimmer was there.whats up with that?

Darren Woodson was a very good player, but at the end, he was suspect to the deep ball as well. We were basically playing with 2 Strong Safeties, because for once the Cowboys realized they needed to replace a Great Player. But his leadership cannot be underscored.

He actually stated on the radio that he felt Willie Blade's absence was the biggest reason the Cowboys struggled last year.

I have no idea why the defense is susceptible to the Deep Ball this year because we have one of the best secondaries this team has had in years. We are learning a new scheme, but I have to believe that a guy that made the defense very famous, Parcells has alot of input on it, especially since the DC does not even know the scheme.

This year, the coaching staff is the reason the defense is falling short because of poor, predictable, playcalling.

Woody was flat out one of the best and most versatile players ever. He could play safety, corner, and linebacker. Plus he was good on special teams too. Smart as HELL!! Tougher than anybody we currently have on our roster too.

You mean you don't know?

You must have just started following the Boys.

Yes he was all that.......and then some. Only one the best SS's to ever play the game. In a word he was a "Beast". ;)

I miss Woody.

Something tells me he'd still be playing if he wasn't injured.

I thought he was better than Waters. Waters relied too much on preperation and planning. Woody had all that plus superior talent. Obviously both had heart. Woody carried the D with that talent. His 1997 season was so extraordinary and yet unheralded. That's what you get with having Deion in hte same backfield.
