The first presser where rg3 threw his coaches under the bus. Said something like, "I just run the plays they call". I was very happy he was a Commander. Started calling him TO3. Dak won't be doing that.

True
He was he was far more interested in "building his brand" than he was in perfecting his skills.

It's ridiculous. Why give any team any credit for taking a terrific player past the 1st round if that's the case? Shouldn't they have taken him with their 1st pick if they knew he was so good? They got lucky. Complete bologna.
fwiw, I don't think people think it was all luck.
No denying at all that there was some luck...on multiple levels...and also for the reasons you described but 4 times over. He was our 5th player taken at the very end of the 4th..and maybe out 5th ranked QB. Of course we were lucky he was still there. Turns out he was a 1st round talent, so anyone that got him in the 4th underrated him vastly....yet still got him.
No person in the Dallas FO would say otherwise. But they deserve credit as well.

Also, as you said, that means everyone that hits on a player later had at least some luck involved.
Nothing wrong with that.

I laugh when I hear anyone say Dak's success was a fluke because they have no idea how totally committed he is to excellence. It's another reminder that we got the best player in the draft at the most important position for pennies on the dollar.

I don't comment a ton, but I'm exhausted of this question. What more did he have to do? Statistically he was amazing, intangibly he had a superb amount of poise and leadership. He had a bad game and bounced back with one of his best performances. Then in a big game he came from down 21 to tie Aaron Rodgers when he was playing at a super human level.

Here we go again. Gotta love the media. They see a young gun doing what veteran's can't even do in his rookie season and it's called a fluke. I guess he'll just have to prove himself over and over AND OVER. Was the media this tough on Worthlisberger, Brady or even Wodgers (misspelled intentionally) in their rookie season? Of course not. They weren't drafted by the Cowboys. No wonder Jimmy Kempski PhillyVoice Staff writer is so upset. Ten to one, he read the same article. :D

Every NFL season provides us with a number of breakout players. Some prove to be flukes, while others carry that momentum into the next season and become bona fide stars. Let’s take a look at some of the breakout stars of 2016 and determine which category they fall into…

As someone who has written about the influence a good supporting cast can have on a quarterback’s performance, I totally understand why many are questioning Prescott’s tremendous rookie campaign. Quarterbacks dream of playing behind the Cowboys line and having a back like Ezekiel Elliott to lean on.

But there is nothing flukey about Prescott’s game. From Day 1, the fourth-round pick exhibited veteran-like poise in the pocket and a willingness to get through his progressions that you just don’t typically see from rookie passers. And he doesn’t get nearly enough credit for his pre-snap abilities. Prescott was consistently tinkering with protections and play-calls before the ball was snapped.

If anything, Prescott should be even better in 2017.

Was Russell Wilson's rookie year a fluke. Now he didn't have quite the rookie year as Dak but one could argue he got better his 2nd year and has continued to improve. Folks just love to hate the Boys. Although I didn't really see the hate in this article.

A fluke season? I understand somebody having a fluke game, but not a entire fluke season. You don't throw 23 TDs to 4 Ints on a fluke. Will Dak play as well in 2017 as he did in 2016? Possibly not, but the fluke stuff is just silly talk.

cam newton? that year was a flat out fluke of epic proportions. the guy can't throw at all.

LOL. That's like asking whether or not Worthlisberger's rookie year was a fluke?!

Dak has to prove it this year
Plain and simple

The best defensive minds in the game will study his tendencies and take away what he does best

I think he will do great but he has to do it for this talk to go away
He's going to have to prove it every year & win a Super Bowl. If not, it will be a Romo career at best and the media will be all over it. I can see the headlines now, "Another one that couldn't get it done".

Dak is, and will be a success because of this study time, anticipation, and his uncanny ability to read the whole field seeing daylight between receivers and defenders, very rare. Also his ability to adjust his throws to fit the situation is uncanny.

His TD's will increase as will his int's because he will take more chances, but still will have a incredible season.

Dak's not a fluke. Even all of his advanced stats reflect a player who's not lucky. Foles's season in 2013 however, was shown by advanced stats to be fluky. 7 of his 27 TDs were in one game vs an Oakland team that laid down.

One of the biggest knocks on Dak prior to the draft was that he very rarely took snaps from center - so he practiced it over and over again and got it down. Also, Linehan tweaked the offense to have slightly more shot-gun plays, roll-outs, read-options, and ball-fakes (Dak has sick ball-handling skills). The best evidence for Dak not being a fluke are the games they won and the way he performed when both Tyron Smith and Dez were out. The Giants are the only team to stymie him so far (due to a great scheme by Spags, and a very talented DL and secondary), and hopefully week1, Dak leads the Cowboys to his first win vs. the Giants.
