"Quarterbacks dream of playing behind the Cowboys line and having a back like Ezekiel Elliott to lean on."

What about Zeke playing behind the #1 run blocking OL, do rb's dream of playing behind that?

They knew enough to draft him before any other team and that is all that matters :) So regardless when they picked Dak, they pulled the trigger when they needed to. I do not get why so many want to give Dallas a backhanded complement for when/how they picked Dak. It is not like every team's draft goes according to plan year in year out.
Absolutely. I'm not in any way trying to take anything from that draft. It was a draft for the ages and the Cowboys scouting department, front office, and coaches should certainly be given credit for what that draft yielded; 4 starters in one draft, to say nothing of the potential of Tapper, Smith and Gaither, is incredible. To say the Cowboys were lucky to find Dak at the bottom of the fourth round is not an indictment of the Cowboys organization. But you can't deny that had they known Dak was who Dak is, they would have never attempted to trade up for Paxton Lynch or Connor Cook.

Here we go again. Gotta love the media. They see a young gun doing what veteran's can't even do in his rookie season and it's called a fluke. I guess he'll just have to prove himself over and over AND OVER. Was the media this tough on Worthlisberger, Brady or even Wodgers (misspelled intentionally) in their rookie season? Of course not. They weren't drafted by the Cowboys. No wonder Jimmy Kempski PhillyVoice Staff writer is so upset. Ten to one, he read the same article. :D

Every NFL season provides us with a number of breakout players. Some prove to be flukes, while others carry that momentum into the next season and become bona fide stars. Let’s take a look at some of the breakout stars of 2016 and determine which category they fall into…

As someone who has written about the influence a good supporting cast can have on a quarterback’s performance, I totally understand why many are questioning Prescott’s tremendous rookie campaign. Quarterbacks dream of playing behind the Cowboys line and having a back like Ezekiel Elliott to lean on.

But there is nothing flukey about Prescott’s game. From Day 1, the fourth-round pick exhibited veteran-like poise in the pocket and a willingness to get through his progressions that you just don’t typically see from rookie passers. And he doesn’t get nearly enough credit for his pre-snap abilities. Prescott was consistently tinkering with protections and play-calls before the ball was snapped.

If anything, Prescott should be even better in 2017.

Did you actually read the article you posted? You make a statement like they ripped him and said he was going to suck, and then everything you have included from the article seems to say that no, he won't be a fluke. And to top it off, they appear to have looked at more than just Dak.

Of course anything is possible. But I would be shocked if he doesn't pick up right where he left off, AT LEAST. He want's to be great and is not afraid to put in the work and watch the film to be great, so the odds are in his favor. The leadership deal is something you either have or you don't and he has more than he needs..I would not bet against him.
I agree. I was a big doubter on draft day but this guy is legit. I have a hard time seeing him NOT winning a super bowl for us, or two.

Of course.
Both statements are true

Has anyone ever said otherwise?

The doubters would say RG3. I think 20TDs and 5ints. But I think the combo of arrogance and fragility are what doomed him. Neither apply to Dak.

There have been more than just one throughout NFL history.

A sophomore slump and fluke rookie season is very real - even if he has one though, this doesn't mean he can't rebound in year 3.

Um, I think it was week 14 before Dak's footwork was refined enough to drop back and pass without play action. Footwork needs to improve before the whole offense is available to us and his red zone offense needs to get better, just to name 2 things.

So while his season was amazing statistically, he still has a lot of room for growth and we shouldn't talk about Dak like he is a finished product because he isn't. Romo who hadn't played all season went in for one series and took the team into the end zone.

It's a valid concern IMO. One I'm hopeful about and he is in the ideal situation to be great. So if Dak throws 30 TDs this season this talk will be over, but otherwise the conversation will totally turn to what would he be without this O-line, Zeke, and Dez.

Who's talking about Dak like he is a finished product? I havent seen anyone say that anywhere. He was a rookie last year for cripe sakes.

Dak is special. However a lot fell into place for him.
While the QB is the most important part, he is but one part.
Greatest team sport.

Dak came into the NFL never played behind center before. He was in a snapgun offense at college. So that didn't fall into place for him behind this offense. He was learning everything from the go from his 1st preseason game.

Here are the quarterbacks responsible for the top ten rookie performances in NFL history.

Dak Prescott
Robert Griffin
Russell Wilson
Ben Roethlisberger
Dan Marino
Marcus Mariota
Matt Ryan
Teddy Bridgewater
Cam Newton
Jameis Winston

How many flukes can you count out of the remaining 9?
