He had a full career, but he could have won at least one championship with a real coach and GM. In the latter sense, his career was wasted, but not based on his overall years he dedicated to the game.

There are a lot of star players who, because of their age and bad timing, were unfortunately on their team at the wrong time. Some great players never get Super Bowl rings while some below average players do. It is just the way it is unfortunately.

Only Romo fans remember the crayton drops , the fasano drop in the end zone, the Murray fumble to seal the game, the dez drop on 4th down. When Romo was good enough his teammates weren't. But !, he's the QB so he'll be remembered by most for being good but not great enough.

This is one of the problems with the idea of achieve. Not that the question isn't relevant
but that if he doesn't attain this notion of success he has been "wasted".
Someone up thread said he'd be happy with Romo's life and so would all of us here
and if you wouldn't it speaks volumes about our unrealistic false stories we tell ourselves and our culture.

When you consider that Tony was a UDFA his career was glorious...he made a fortune of money, enjoyed great fame and has a tremendous future to look forward to.
I should say that it was the Cowboys that wasted Tony's talent. As far as Tony , he lived the dream as QB of America's team coming from nowhere to do it. I hope he does well on TV. It's great we have 2 QBs on the #1 announcing team on 2 different networks. lol
