Was Selvies's start to last season a complete fluke?

In his 1st 9 games last year Selvie got 6 sacks and looked like we found a real diamond in the rough....now in this past 12 games his recorded all of 1 sacks? So did he just get off to a flukey start last year or does anyone expect him to pick it up?

Personally, I think we put too much stock in him and hes a mediocre pass rusher at best

Coming in he was considering an NFL journeyman. He had a very nice year, however, he did have Hatcher and Ware (sometimes) pushing the pocket.

1 sacks in 12 game is roughly what his career averaged looked like before the 6 sack spurt he had in the beginning of last year.

His 'problem' is that the NFL knows who he is now.

If he's got another notch he'll have to find it, if he wants those sacks back.

JMO, of course.

There were a lot of folks who DIDN'T put stock in him– at least not as some kinda "Spencer/Ware" fill in.

George is an OK player for about 20 snaps per game. But he wouldn't be a starter on a defensive line with good defensive ends.

Also I think his shoulder problem is limiting him this season.

Selvie was solid last year due to the presence of Hatcher and Ware.

This is one of those years I wish we had the bye week sooner, say after this weekends game. Get all these players back to 100%.
But then again, come week 11, I'll be saying, glad we had the bye week later, couldn't have come at a better time....LOL

I think he's a solid player and plays hard as he can, but he is limited with a hurt shoulder and not being all that talented to begin with. I think he'd fit better as a more rotational guy who could come in and bust his butt for every play he's in the game and do well. He's certainly a good person to have on the team, but he's not a guy that's irreplaceable, however I do think we have more pressing concerns than Selvie, even at his production level right now.

So... no I don't think his six sacks were a fluke, but I do feel they were probably a result of a guy who surprised a few people in his ability to just put it all on the field. While I may not feel that his six sacks weren't an indication of his true talent level, I am however glad he's on the team and feel we did indeed find a bit of a diamond in the rough to an extent.

Do you think?

What is this "we" business? Anyone who didn't know George Selvie strives to be mediocre is clueless.

I'm not sure anybody put a ton of stock in Selvie, did they? 'Adequate starter?' 'Lucky find,' maybe? I think there were a lot of 'if he can just replicated what he did last year, maybe be a little more comfortable with another full training camp in the system' types of takes. And, of course, more than the usual amount of snark pretending everybody thought he'd be a world-beater.

There are always exceptions, but overall, I'd say the collective board reaction to George Selvie being here was one, big, sleepy 'ok.' But maybe I'm remembering it wrong or I missed a hot topic thread....

EDIT: Oops. I take it back. Jobber wanted him for President.

I still like him because he stood his ground last year, battled herorically for us when others were bailing out and stuff. He stood with us when others didn't. period left banke.

We really should have been the front office...I have a bad habit of using we as if I'm actually apart of the franchise.

We, and by 'we' I also mean the front office, really went into this season thin at the DE position. I realize that's a big part of why they put so much emphasis on betting Lawrence in, but it's still surprising we didn't do more heading into the year with Spencer so iffy and Selvie coming off of a career year.
