Was Selvies's start to last season a complete fluke?

We, and by 'we' I also mean the front office, really went into this season thin at the DE position. I realize that's a big part of why they put so much emphasis on betting Lawrence in, but it's still surprising we didn't do more heading into the year with Spencer so iffy and Selvie coming off of a career year.

Even though Mincey has actually played pretty decent so far, thinking that he Selvie were a competent starting DE duo was a pretty misguided leap of faith. I'm not saying there were any easy or obvious options there, but it does have to give you at least some appreciation for the D managing to playing middle of the road thus far.

He's just another guy trying to play thru with an INJURY.. Man it's frustrating to have good players limited with injuries...

He really hasn't been all that bad this year. Hasn't really finished plays, but that tends to happen when you have nagging injuries. It's not like the Cowboys signed him to a huge contract increase in the offseason and they drafted Lawrence at DE and waited for Spencer to come back, so they are not exactly guaranteeing him a starting spot. I have little problem with Selvie, how he's playing this season or how the organization is paying and treating him.

In his 1st 9 games last year Selvie got 6 sacks and looked like we found a real diamond in the rough....now in this past 12 games his recorded all of 1 sacks? So did he just get off to a flukey start last year or does anyone expect him to pick it up?

Personally, I think we put too much stock in him and hes a mediocre pass rusher at best

He's a nice player. The scheme is different this year. He's solid, yet unspectacular. A reservist.

I actually thought we were going to get trucked at the DE position this season. I'm very happy with the current below-average level of production we're getting. Mincey has been better than advertised, and the combination of Crawfords and Selvie hasn't been getting us killed. I'll take that and run until we can put more talent on the field at those positions. Here's hoping Lawrence pans out, and quickly.
