Was the 3-4 defense a mistake?

I know it doesn't mean much at this point. But, did BP force something down Jerry's throat this team will never found the players for the 3-4. In the short time he was going to be here. The mistake was keeping Zimmer. Not to bash Zimm, but not having 3-4 experience was a mistake to keep him. I really never thought he was that great of a coach with the 4-3, but that is my opinion.

I think the mistake is that BP thinks he has LT and others at LBs for him. Instead of using 3-4 to be blitzing/stunting like Pittsburgh or San Diego does, he plays to be safe.

His players seem to be afraid of making mistakes, and it shows.

No, the 3-4 is a sound defense with the right coordinator.

Zimmer is NOT the righr coordinator.

I'm starting to join the GROZ bandwagon.

Our Defense was exposed by New Orleans.

the Iggles watched the game film.

So will everyone else.

I agree we need a Coordinator with more 3-4 Experience like Capers, Lebeau or someone like that.

yes with the right DC and a attacking style defense, however keep in mind BP is the one who says he doesn't like blitzing and stunting the DL,he believes it makes you vulnerable for big plays

and after LJ Smith running down the field on the blitz do you think that will cange him.

the bottom line is he is stuck in his old ways and the players are not the same as the cast he had with his SB teams.

you need to play to your players strenghts, sitting back and not attacking is a recipe for disaster IMO

The way this D has played, I don't think 3-4, 4-3 would help. I'm at the point that if we line up 12-13 men on D it won't help. I'm that down after this loss.

exactly i have been saying this for weeks now, we have the most pathetic 3-4 D ever. Doesnt help that we have a pathetic baboon as our D-Coordinator who BTW had never coached a 3-4 D in his life before. Parcells is a complete idiot just for that

I've never understood the sentiment of the anti-Zimmer guys whenever the defense falters in a game. I mean, who's really pulling the strings here? Is there really any doubt that if Parcells wanted to truly unleash the defense, that we would? Does anyone really believe that Parcells wants to do all the stunting and random blitzing with his LBs (the supposed advantage of the 3-4), but Zimmer is refusing to follow suit?

Let's face it, this is Parcells' doing. He has a play it safe mentality, and this is especially true with his LB core. As a former LB coach himself, there's no way he'd let Zimmer dictate what those guys do (or don't do). Personally, I am sick of seeing Ware rush every play. As good as he is, everyone in that stadium knows who is rushing the QB on any given play, and in effect aren't we just running a true 4-3 w/ an undersized DE on most plays?

Just my two cents. I hope we open it up during the next couple of games (playoffs included). After the defenses' performances lately, there's nothing to lose.

I've always liked Zimmer, but its time for a change.

The last three games have been horrible displays of Defense.

In many ways, we are really lucky to have won the Falcons game.

We could be looking at 3 straight losses.

I think losing one of our leaders on the d-line (Glover) was a big mistake.
3-4 fit or not the guy played with an intensity and heart that our younger linemen can't seem to find.

3-4 defenses are for teams that play an aggressive brand of defense. We do not play that style. Pittsburgh and New England has played the 3-4 and have done so being very aggressive. The way our defense is coached, yes, it has been a mistake.

with out Ellis, we play more of a 4-3 under than a true 3-4.

The 3/4 can be a very good D.......But, not the way we attempt to run it.
