Was this DeCamillus worst day as a special teams guru?

A 79-yard return?
Arm tackling that failed miserably?
A punt that went too long and allowed Hix to run it back that spectacularly?
A botched field goal? And allowing that prissy Folk to blame McBriar?
A fancy onsides kick touched by Hurd too soon?
A missed angle by Hurd that allowed a GiANT to score?
Piffy kickoff returns by Ogle?

Wow!

One more special teams day like that, Mr. Decamillus, and you, too, might be leaving with Wade on the has-been train, if an when JG cleans house.

I hope you are joking. Most of what would mentioned - arm tackling, the long punt and the missed angle - was one play. You really expect him to be lumped with Wade on one play?

It was an anomaly, thats for sure. Especially for our special teams units which have been lights out all season.

I don't think we see another special teams performance like that the rest of the season. In fact, knowing how Coach Joe D is, I know we won't see that again. I would hate to be on the punt unit at practice today.

True dat. About not wanting to be on the punt unit at practice today. Except they won't have practice today.

As for your lights out description, I don't buy that. The special teams unit has been adequate but from what I kin remember, not spectacular.

Those were the lowlights.
I am sure that when the medication kicks off there will be more miscues or missed chances that will come to mind.
Not a proud day for the ST unit, you will have to admit.

This was easily his worst day as a cowboys coach but I don't think this one day is going to get him run out of here and to be honest I'd be pissed off if it did. He's upgraded our special teams in a major way this year. I will not hate him after one poor game.

In ratrospeck ah think you are right.
I feel better, though, for venting.
God, please, help us through this month.

Agreed. Sometimes venting just makes everything better. :)

Mat McBriar has 58 punts for 2569 yards. He's punted more yards than some quarterbacks have thrown for. On top of that, he punts inside the 20 yard line over 55% of the time -- that includes all those punts from deep in our own territory.

Our punt unit yields, on average, 9.3 yards per punt. Only 29 of 58 punts have been returned for a total of 270 yards. Only 1 touchback punt all year.

Unfortunately I can't find Cowboys kickoff statistics here - the DOD network doesn't play nice with NFL.com.

I'd say those stats are pretty "lights out."

Did not see Decamillas tackling like a woman or shanking kicks yesterday. I hope Jerry considers him for head coach when the inevitable happens.

For the record, McBriar is one of my favorites. last year i called him a franchise player. His standing with me has not changed. from all accounts he is a decent and down to earth guy and even played down that ***** Folk yelling at him when ever body is in agreement that McBriar placed the ball correctly when Folkgirl attempting that late field goal.

But with all due respect, special teams has other areas other than kicking.

:hammer:
This has nothing to do with Coach D. We had Hixon bottled up and couldn't tackle him, Folk was looking for someone to blame on his shank, Hurd needs to use his brains and wait til it clears 10 yards. I have a hard time believing that Coach D is at fault for these things. Players play.

Though you would find many who agree, coaches are held accountable for a team's debacle or nonproduction. Wade, too, is not on the field to tackle or receive or to kick. But he will be held accountable. Bank on it.

It was a bad day for special teams. The difference between Camillis and our OC and DC is that it is pretty rare for our ST to look this unprepared, as for our other units...no suprises there.

Just a bad day for our Special teams and in no way was McBriar's hold the cause of Folk's miss.

I hope not. The players weren't coached to screw up like that you know.

2009 special teams > the last few years special teams.
