As a die hard Cowboy fan for about 40 years (yes, I am that old), I always tend to look at the glass as half full instead of half empty. My take on this is Bledsoe is a known quantity. He has followed the same script for a number of years including his time in Buffalo as well as his last year in New England. He can make any throw if protected and I mean protected well. People in his face cause happy feet and very poor decisions. With anyone in his face he gets a deer in the headlights look and acts like a rookie QB, with the only difference being he not only throws interceptions, but he also takes sacks because of an inate inability (for whatever reason) to throw the ball away. Don't believe he can help it, as he is just hard-wired that way. There is no upside to Bledsoe unless he is protected with a great great line. That doesn't exist in Dallas now and no one can dispute that is a fact. As the coach says we are what we are in that regard.
Therefore the only upside out there from the QB perspective is with Romo. He is more mobile and has a quicker release then Bledsoe and I believe will make better decisions. He made some throws last night under great pressure that Bledsoe couldn't make in my opinion. Given the realities of our line, there are certainly some packages available to Dallas (rollouts and such) that will give Romo the opportunity to make a few plays against Carolina. I believe we will run the ball against Carolina and will have chance to make some throws downrange. If we are patient with the run, we will have chances to throw the ball downrange into single coverage. TO, Witten and Terry will have opportunties to make some plays as Romo's mobility (and accuracy) will provide us some opportunties. I don't think we would have a chance in hell at winning this game with Bledsoe at QB, given our lines capabilities (or lack there of) this year.
Lastly, our defense sucked the other night. Our linebackers for the most part couldn't tackle anyone. Our D-line for the most part couldn't put pressure on Eli. Our defense had opportunities to intercept two of Eli's passes and missed clean. You can't win with that kind of defense against a team that had the kind of playmakers the Giants have. You must cash in when you have a chance. If anything, I thought we actually blitzed too much last night. Eli will make some bad throws even if you don't put much pressure on him. I don't believe he has the ability now to make all the throws as he can be inaccurate at times (he's only 25 for goodness sakes, he can't do everything well). Anyway, all of this is water over the dam as that game is history.
Ok. The recipe is complete. Very little blitzing, keep our Safetys out of to much deep coverage (Watkins will be very good, but he's still green and his confidence is on the low side and Roy is still a major liability in coverage). Play the two deep zone and frustrate Steve Smith somehow someway and if he catchs a pass over the middle he needs to be hit hard, real hard. Linebackers need to make some tackles and hit with power and for goodness sake take better angles to the ballcarrier. They totally underestimated Tiki's speed on two or three occasions. Not to many problems with the D-line as contrary to Dallas, the Giants have a very good o-line and therefore our D-line couldn't be expected to dominate.
There you go. If the above happens we can win the game and turn this whole thing around. We still have a good defense for the most part and I believe our Quarterback play will be better then it was with Bledsoe. You can run the ball on Carolina if you play your cards right and that will set up play action passing. Our receivers as a group have to be just about as good as anyone else's in the league. Ok. like I said, you have to be optimistic, remember half-full. Should be an interesting time in the next few weeks. If we can keep the wheels on for the next three weeks, we should be a much better team in the final five games of the season.
