Watkins fumble recovery

Watkins fumble recovery and return was most impressive. But even more impressive was the way he handled himself after he was tackled. He didn't get up and start showboating, he didn't do some silly dance or taunt any other players. He merely walked back over to his bench and sat down.

To me that was very classy.

Way to go Watkins!

I thought Watkins had a very good game. Deflected a couple of passes and the 53 yard return on the fumble.

Very good observation I didn't notice until you pointed it out.

I really don't get this obsession with classiness. Great fumble recovery and return. Who cares what he did afterwards? As long as it didn't draw a flag, like the pathetic Jags.

Well "Superpunk", it's because many people get tired of watching these guys act like complete idiots every time thay make a play (you know...what they get paid to do). It's nice (and a bid surprising) to see an FSU DB come into the league, make a big play and act like he's a pro that's been doing this for years. It was refreshing. We've got enough "characters" in this league pulling out Sharpies and doing River Dances. I don't mind and occasional celebration over a huge, game winning, play - but a lot of these guys just want attention. AB dunks over crossbars when his team is losing! Moronic. I am very happy that Watkins slid to us in the draft. That was a gift. His professional behavior thus far has been a bonus.

Yay. It's nice. It's really, really, not a big deal.

I agree. If you make a BIG play, you should be able to celebrate (under the right circumstances). Just don't go overboard.

I was watching some of the Lions game yesterday, and it seemed Roy Williams would celebrate after every first down. That was irritating.

Another thing I can't stand is when players celebrate while being down big w/ the game being almost over and no chance of coming back.

Exactly. Those things are tasteless, and more importantly, lame. But going wild and celebrating after making a big play is not a big deal. It's excitement, it's part of the game. Don't obsess over it.

You could tell he REALLY wanted to score on that play. That was a good return.

I noticed him involved in more plays in general this game. I've been impressed so far.

the refs are getting riduculous this year, calling things that aren't at all close to going overboard. a guy can dance but if one of his teamates picks him up then it's a penalty. Let the guys have some fun. Every single time a guy celebrates isn't trashy sometimes its downright fun.

but yes the watkins fumble recovery was a good play, and I am glad all the preseason hype seems to have ben warranted for the guy.

Refs did not create the rules the Owners did.

Watkins also showed some toughness, continuing to run after his helmet was knocked off. Would've been cool if he scored without it. Instead he just picked it up and went to the bench afterwards. I wouldn't have been mad if he celebrated though.

that the first three weeks of the season I saw guys throwing balls into the crowd with nary a flag thrown and this last week it was a personal flag. The player find something they think is safe then the refs, league, owner or whoever decided they didn't like it and the flags start coming out. I think the rules interpretation is left up to the refs, and to me that is a mistake.

I'm sure he did celebrate on the sidelines with teammates. If a guy wants to celebrate I'm fine with it as long as it is not getting flagged by the same token if a player makes a big play and goes to the sideline without the side show that is cool also.

I agree.

There are probably some fans at home who celebrate as much, if not more, than the players on the field. But if a player celebrates, it's classless... I don't get it.

I think the Owners tell the refs what they expect. Refs don't make rules they enforce them and if the owners think they have gone to far then I'm sure they will get with the head of officials for clarification. Bottom line is the owners wanted to put an end to some of these side shows. I can only speak for myself when I say I’m glad they are

i guess my problem with the new rules is I don't see how the old rules were hurting the game at all. When a guy did something classless before it seems like he still got flagged. Now guys lifting their teamates up after a big play is considered a personal foul. Its all just silly.
