I wonder how many hours Jerry Jones wanted in the contract?

I suspect putting a minimum number of hours a member of the staff has to work in a contract is very uncommon.

Bringing Dan Reeves in was Wade Phillips idea, Jerry Jones was probably not really enthuised about it and probably didn't want it to happen.

What Jerry is doing is causing a great many, many fans to lose their enthusiasm for the Dallas Cowboys. I am 56 years old, was born and raised near Dallas, and have been an absolute die-hard fan for my entire life (entire life of the Cowboys). This coming year, I will not be renewing NFL ticket for the first time since I've had it. I only miss 4 or 5 games each year anyways, but in the past, it was worth it to me not to miss a single game. Not any more. Oh, I'll still watch and hope and root, but my "give a ****" meter has dialed back considerably for the first time in my life because of the way this team is being managed and where I fear it is headed. The team is spiraling downward like our economy and, like our economy, needs a stimulus package and none seems to be in sight. Very disheartening indeed!

Boy You couldnt have said it any better if I was saying it myself. What pisses me off more than anything is that Im 35 years old and I have been tortured with this Bull every sunday since all the superbowls. And what pisses me off is that we finally got some talent and The Tuna righted the Ship. And Jerry is just screwing it up and it makes me sick to my stomach. This is our opportunity as Cowboy fans to be Living it up and instead we get the Old Jerry Jones doing the same spit. Ive been reading some Longhorn Football Forums and trying to Wean myself off the Heart ache. The Dallas Cowboys are just like a Bad Girlfriend, the more she kicks you the more you try to be with her. My give a spit meter has been scaled way back also.

Eventually you will get to the point where nothing Jerry Jones does will shock you.

This must be how a Raiders fan feels.

To me it seems like we're itching to get any new blood in the house so bad, that when it doesn't happen, again we freak out!

Let's just sit back, see what the draft brings us, see how Garrett matures as a coordinator, see how Wade does in his 3rd year, see what we bring in free agency, see the cuts, the hires, and get through pre-season before we FREAK OUT!

We're way to addicted to names, and what guys have done in the past.

Good point. What most of us want is someone to hold Jerry accountable for his claims to change the way things are done. Jerry does not want to be accountable to anyone. It's his perogative since he owns the team, but he does need to remember that he relies on a fan base that has more loyalty to the brand name than the owner.

BOTH men made too big a deal out of this. On one hand, I don't understand why Jerry would let this thing fall apart on something that seems so minor. On the other hand, If Reeves agreed to work so many hours, then he shouldn't have had a problem with it being written in the contract. Reeves himself said that there was no way to verify it anyway since no one punched a time clock. Nowhere does it say that Jerry wanted him to punch a clock.

I was really looking forward to Dan Reeves being a part of the organization. I still wish that they could come to a agreement on this. But if their working relationship fell apart on something this minor, what would have happened when they actually faced a real problem.

BTW, Didn't Jimmy and Bill have this same clause in their contract? If so, then why did Reeves seem to get so insulted about this?

Yeah, it isn't often that we have had this much talent, and to waste it like this is unconscionable.

If his role is consultant, why cant he have set hours to work? He isnt a coach who has to log in long hours gameplanning. America punches a clock what makes a consultant job any different? Not a big deal in my opinion.

I agree, because of the nature of his title I dont see a problem with Jerry wanting a set number of hours for Dan to be at Valley Ranch. I don't see why Dan R. did'nt agree to the contract.

For me, this isn't just about Jerry not getting Reeves. Nor is this about getting or not getting big names. Hell, we have quite a collection of names already, and that, alone, isn't doing much for the success of the team. Jerry not getting Reeves is just another sign out of many that things are not well at Valley Ranch and no end is in sight. The players, themselves, constantly having to speak to the press and act like idiots, in general. Jerry is definitely in charge at VR, and he is as much, if not more, to blame for the general woes of the team than is Wade. We do not have a team. We are fans of a collection of very talented individuals who do not have a common purpose. Some seem to be in it for the money, some for the fame, but very few seem to be in it to win. If I'm freaking out over that, then so be it...I'll continue to "freak out". Frankly, I'm just kind of fed up.

Why is the amount of hours he wants to work in a week such a big deal to him? You guys forget that Jerry is a business man he needs to protect his investment some how.

Jerry gets on my nerves as much as the next guy, but he's not going anywhere, and we do have to admit that the guy does whatever he thinks is best to getting us to the SB.

Him trying to hire a GM was a good step in the direction we needed. (make no doubts about it, Reeves would've been the undercover GM)

I could see where Reeves would be a little offended about this. He has never been known as anything less than a workaholic during his tenure. But, unless he was going to end up in a VP type role where he had real power to influence on all aspects of the organization (instead of "whatever Jerry and Wade want me to do"), then it isn't the end of the world.

If Jerry is going to stick with Garrett, we should at least let him sink or swim on his own so that we know where we are at by the end of the year when Wade's contract is up.

Football is football and business is business...

Reeves is a football man and knows what committment is required, coaches put in the time that is needed,, and I am sure that Reeves felt his committment was being questioned.

Jerry is a business man,, protecting his investment....

We need more football men in the organization if it is ever going to produce a winner.... Good luck Jerry, I hope your business goes well.

This is one side of the story--important details should be in writing.

Who is paying the bills?

I agree with Mr. Jones.

In today's society there are no more handshake deals. CC, I agree with you. Also, the other side of the coin, if Reeves was going to put the time in any way then why balk?

To be fair, everyone had this wrong. It was a Rorshach test with everyone viewing it through their own filters and, as far as I can tell, nobody guessed that it was killed over a damned time card.
