Twitter: Watkins: Tyler Smith will remain at LG [misleading tweet; see post 11]

This could have a significant ripple effect on the rest of the OL. Might even save Steele from becoming a cap casualty?

That's not what Schottenheimer said.

He said right now, he will play guard, but they want the best 5 players on the field so they will do what's best for the team.

Here is the video cued to start where the question was asked ..

They don't want to give up on Guyton at LT yet along with the fact that the All-Pro guard doesn't want to play out there.

I want Steele released but the hole that creates could tempt the Jones boys to use one of those 1sts on an OT. I hope not. RT will be a need during FA and possibly the draft. Unless they think Cornelius or Nate Thomas can handle the job.

Keep him at Guard. Nothing worse than a pocket collapsing up the middle.

Now Schotty needs to talk with Guyton and see if he's going step up and become the player we expect a first rounder to be or just here to steal money on a rookie contract

What it comes down to is that it's easier to replace a guard with a solid player than it is to replace a left tackle.

I'm sure they would love to keep him at LG, but if they cannot find a reliable LT and they can find a reliable LG, then it's a no brainer to move him to LT, at least until they find a solid LT at some point.

So IF Guyton is the starter at LT for 2026...
Yeah,
I'll hafta check back here around the 4th or 5th game of the season.
My early prediction is huge amounts of moaning here based on his continued poor performance/ lack of durability or both.
Now, IF the best LT available were to be drafted or a pricey FA LT were acquired they could get out in front of this before it snowballs.

Just like Overshown is not the best guarantee at LB (because of injury history)and the roster desperately needs 2 starting LBs as priority one...
Neither Guyton or Thomas are starting LTs in the NFL.
And the glaring LT hole will become extremely obvious even before mid season rolls around if the necessary offseason action previously mentioned is not taken.

Smith wants to play LG. He knows that he can be a HOF player at OG and unlikely to at LT. He's a solid LT but his qualities don't stand out at that position like they do at OG.

Schottenheimer: Tyler, we want you at LT.

Smith: I need more money.

Schottenheimer: Well, I guess we are gonna have a fantastic LG next season.
It's more like he asked where he wanted to play and he told him honestly. Now they have the interior locked up and need to figure out what they will do with the tackles. It wouldn't surprise me if Guyton ends up at right tackle.
