Twitter: Watkins: Tyler Smith will remain at LG [misleading tweet; see post 11]

or a decent FA
They had Robert Jones from last season but ended up on IR. He probably is not the answer, if they resign him. But could be a decent swing tackle or starter until someone emerges.

But yes, a FA is very possible.

That's not what Schottenheimer said.

He said right now, he will play guard, but they want the best 5 players on the field so they will do what's best for the team.

Here is the video cued to start where the question was asked ..

It’s typical Calvin Watkins

He makes up his own interpretation of what was said, with the intention of getting clicks.

Calvin is a hack who preys upon our ADHD minds where we can’t even bother to read more than what’s in bold.

Like that. I could write something completely different now but all that matters is where I draw your attention.

I despise him. There’s a reason why the Cowboys press liaison always gives him first question. It’s because he and the front office have a parasitic relationship and he does their bidding when needed.

Dallas football press are just awful.

So. Smith at LG, Booker at RG, set for a long time.
Same for Beebe at C at least for 2026.
Steele a cap casualty. Guyton to RT.

So there you have it. With one of the 2 1st round picks, a LT.
If they spend another 1st round pick on O-line.. I will lose my freakin' mind.

Defence, defence, defence.

What it comes down to is that it's easier to replace a guard with a solid player than it is to replace a left tackle.

I'm sure they would love to keep him at LG, but if they cannot find a reliable LT and they can find a reliable LG, then it's a no brainer to move him to LT, at least until they find a solid LT at some point.
Do you think he is a reliable LT though? I think he has been decent there in his rookie season but he didn’t look amazing there at the end of this season. I’d honestly rather stick with Guyton and keep Smith at guard where he is all-pro. Guyton was showing progress at times but keeps getting stalled by injuries.

The best 5 starting Olinemen would be:

From left to right...

LT: Tyler Smith
LG: Brock Hoffman
C: Tyler Beebe
RG: Tyler Booker
RT: Terence Steele/Tyler Guyton/Ajani Cornelius (take your pick)

What it comes down to is that it's easier to replace a guard with a solid player than it is to replace a left tackle.

Exactly.

So IF Guyton is the starter at LT for 2026...
Yeah,
I'll hafta check back here around the 4th or 5th game of the season.
My early prediction is huge amounts of moaning here based on his continued poor performance/ lack of durability or both.
Now, IF the best LT available were to be drafted or a pricey FA LT were acquired they could get out in front of this before it snowballs.

Just like Overshown is not the best guarantee at LB (because of injury history)and the roster desperately needs 2 starting LBs as priority one...
Neither Guyton or Thomas are starting LTs in the NFL.
And the glaring LT hole will become extremely obvious even before mid season rolls around if the necessary offseason action previously mentioned is not taken.
Guyton was such a reach in the 1st round, he just does not have the athleticism to play LT in the NFL and it is beyond stupid to use first round picks on RTs.

You despise him and we all know why!!! Guy is so short lol, and for some reason he always gets his question answered first!

They don't want to give up on Guyton at LT yet along with the fact that the All-Pro guard doesn't want to play out there.

I want Steele released but the hole that creates could tempt the Jones boys to use one of those 1sts on an OT. I hope not. RT will be a need during FA and possibly the draft. Unless they think Cornelius or Nate Thomas can handle the job.
If Guyton can stay healthy, Im actually confident in him being the LT. He was progressing this year, and was pretty much a league average LT when he got hurt.

The problem with him is staying healthy. Thats where I was in board with Smith at LT and Guyton at RT. If Guyton goes down at RT, we have a better menu of options (Cornelius)at a position thats easier to fix

Yip

We aren't drafting a LT . If anything, we will get a very good one in free agency. I think thats the plan. GUYTON can't cut it at LT. Hes going to be a stud RT, where we should have played him from the jump.

Would Dallas consider spending one of the 1sts on an OT?
No. Cowboys need to stop at least for this 2026 draft and possibly the 2027 one as well from using another 1st round pick on another O-Tackle.

Cowboys need to build up their defense.

With Guyton it’s more about availability more than his actual play. While he’s not that great yet on the field, he needs the reps and to get on the field. Can’t have your starting LT miss multiple games every season. This is the same problem we had a Tyron at the end of his career here…..

Go get Cam Robinson from the jags in free agency. Plug him in at LT. Move GUYTON to RT. Trade steele.

The next conversation has to be with Tyler Guyton. Someone needs to tell him to stop being such a puss* and get on the field and stay there.

This is exactly what worries me about moving on from Steele....somehow the options only get worse. Robinson is on the decline and is on his fourth team in two year. The free agency options are not very strong this year.

The guy I would keep an eye on is Jonah Williams as he had his best season under Klayton Adams, but hes also really settled into RT after leaving Cincinnati which kinda defeats the purpose if you're leaving Guyton on the left side.

They liked Tyler guyton so much in the draft they were willing to trade down and risk losing him
