Twitter: Watkins: Tyler Smith will remain at LG [misleading tweet; see post 11]

We had this discussion but hey I think all it has been said we already knew this he's not moving permanently to left tackle for one he has tendonitis and makes him a little slower to move in space and you can end up making him sit out games when that flares up more when he's happening move more so we already knew he was going back to left guard that doesn't change the fact that if they ask him for a 2 to three game stretches to go to left tackle he needs to just be happy about it.

Takes a buttload of money and he needs to do what they ask him to do position flexes all over the team he's not the only one being asked to move at times it was an experiment They wanted to see how it would work they also got to see a longer look at Bass and Hoffman at left guard this is all done at the end of the year just to just to get a better picture of what they have Going into offseason needs...

They don't want to give up on Guyton at LT yet along with the fact that the All-Pro guard doesn't want to play out there.

I want Steele released but the hole that creates could tempt the Jones boys to use one of those 1sts on an OT. I hope not. RT will be a need during FA and possibly the draft. Unless they think Cornelius or Nate Thomas can handle the job.
I think Nate and Guyton are going to be the LT/RT soon.

He's a Pro Bowl LG.

Doesnt want to move to LT, where he wont be a Pro Bowl LT.

Hurts his career.

They liked Tyler guyton so much in the draft they were willing to trade down and risk losing him
He needs to learn to protect his legs. Braces are your friend.

Look at the gear TSmith was wearing.

Guyton was hurt almost the entire season.

So. Smith at LG, Booker at RG, set for a long time.
Same for Beebe at C at least for 2026.
Steele a cap casualty. Guyton to RT.

So there you have it. With one of the 2 1st round picks, a LT.
Probably Nate.

I too would love to upgrade the position, but who is the replacement for Steele if you do move on? The Cowboys are simply in a horrible spot with both tackle positions.
Dude, the only reason Steele is still here is his contract.
we can do better easily.

Ok who are you getting that is better? I could see if you're committed to spending a 1st round pick on a tackle. Unless we see a surprise and the Colts or Packers let their guys walk in Walker/Smith I don't see a very good option that would offer much of an improvement. Jonah Williams??? maybe, given that hes had some positive play under Klayton Adams.

I know Steele isnt very good, but there is a shortage of talent at the position across the league. If Steele does get cut I bet he would still get somewhere in the $10-15m per year range from a team.

This is exactly what worries me about moving on from Steele....somehow the options only get worse. Robinson is on the decline and is on his fourth team in two year. The free agency options are not very strong this year.

The guy I would keep an eye on is Jonah Williams as he had his best season under Klayton Adams, but hes also really settled into RT after leaving Cincinnati which kinda defeats the purpose if you're leaving Guyton on the left side.
Hes still better than Guyton.

Hes still better than Guyton.
My ideal offseason would be a scenario where Guyton is penciled in as the swing going into camp with an opportunity to win a starting job if he truly takes a significant step forward. My bigger thing is the Cowboys may want to hang onto Steele another year as I'm not sure many FAs are truly an upgrade. Robinson led the league in penalties this year with 14 and had 13 last year.

Our Tackles are not good this year at all, but I would caution anyone who thinks it cant get worse.

It's actually defense, defense, defense. Unless you are UK, Canada, etc.
We have lived in Australia now for so long that I cant remember what is from home and what is from here.

Caught myself saying boot the other day instead of trunk.

Anyway.. it's the Kings English so its actually defence, defence, defence. ;)

This team is the absolute worst. Just do whatever you want Tyler it doesn't really matter anyone. Stand there like a pylon and people will still try to pass you off as a sure fire hall of famer.

Smith wants to play LG. He knows that he can be a HOF player at OG and unlikely to at LT. He's a solid LT but his qualities don't stand out at that position like they do at OG.
"Solid" is questionable.
