Watt - What am I missing?

He's a little too tight with the likes for that.

It's about his potential. He tested as a top SPARQ athlete for edge rushers (along with Bowser). He also has a great motor (and doesn't hurt that his last name is Watt). That combination, and the demand for pass rushers, is enough to push him into the first round.

If you draft him in the 1st round to play DE it's entirely based on his workout.

His film doesn't show anything to suggest he can do it.

He's the definition of a workout warrior

I'm not sure that's right. He also has good tape and production this year. His negatives are his injury history and the fact that he's only done it for one year.

Bob Sturm likes Watt a ton. I respect his opinion since he's seen A LOT of TJ and is very objective with his evaluations.

He's not super bendy but he can win with speed. Watt's versatility is actually being used as a negative by some in here, what am I reading? Imagine if he got to pin his ears back on every passing down. That 11.5 sack total goes up a bit.

You could count on two hands the number of pass rush wins he had vs OTs in his career

Maybe, but PFF stats seem to suggest that he wins when he rushes at a rate greater than other guys in this drafts. Can't think that was all against OG and TEs

TEs and RBs

The vast majority of his production came unblocked and on TEs and RBs

He gets engulfed by Tackles

He will be a colossal bust as a 43 End

I think his last name helps alot. Imagine if he wasn't named Watt. Where would he honesty be projected? I'd say 2nd- 3rd round from the little I've seen.

Jordan Willis.

Many will think he is a reach at 28. I'm not one of them. I think if we pick him it will be similar to picking Travis Fredrick at 31. People will complain at first, but things will work out in the end.

Depends. If he was T.J. Wentz he'd probably push Garrett down to San Francisco.

Man, I just done see Willis at all. Watched a number of games and I see little of the athleticism that he tested at.

Yeah...lets not even begin to think about what a Carson Watts would project! The only QB who can break the most passin TDs per game AND sacks per game record!? Talk about position flex! Mind blown.

Fair enough. The draft has always been a crap shoot. One of us could be right in the end or it could end up somewhere in the middle. That's what makes it fun.

Same with Tyus Bowser. He's in my top 20 as an OLB. On a Cowboys specific board I'd never have him there.

Some of the appeal with Willis is he is a true 4-3 end. You won't have to worry about him being a liability in the run game lined up over an OT.
So Willis will make a fine LE. How about a RE at 28.

Watt is a guy I still haven't made up my mind on. The more I read and watch highlights, the more uncertain I am about him as a candidate at 28.

Every potential pick at DE is a risk. That's what you get when you're picking at the end of the first.

You're also not going to get a rookie coming in and competing against NFL LT's that won't be a liability in the run game.

You pick based on projection. Watt started one year, and yes he was schemed open as an OLB a bit, that's what defenses try and do. But, he has potential.

Unless Garrett or Barnett falls to 28, you're going to get a raw player, and even they will still have a way to go. Harris is raw, McKinley is raw too. Why you would pick TJ is because he had one year starting, hasn't developed his pass rush skillset yet, but is still hand battling effectively and is very "aware" on defense. He has good burst off the ball.

His motor is nonstop, his coaches say he lives to be the best, and yeah having the same genetics as one of, if not the best, DL in the NFL helps. If you've ever had a big brother better than you at anything, you know that competition is positive in itself.

He's a top notch athlete and racked up those crazy combine numbers at 250. Over his rookie contract he could pack on 10-15 solid pounds and still be one of the most athletic lineman in the league.

Good size, great athleticism, competitive, nonstop motor, lives for football, productive. That's the argument for him anyway.
