more ran, maybe upgrade your video card, nothing to out landish. but deff the first thing is to upgrade your ram, that allows the programs to do things.

Depending on the games you definately need more ram.

google microsoft xp tweaks.....if you can find viper tweaks for services.msc........it will tell you what u should disable in services.....Microsoft has alot of services that arent needed running.

go to start>run and type in msconfig.....goto startup tab and uncheck anything other then sound....systray....and antivirus.........things like quicktime....microsoftword....etc....uncheck.....if not they will be working in the background and take up resources.....

biggest improvement is to upgrade your memory.....1G should be the min...IMHO...

also....do disk cleanup....and defrag your hard drive.....

also....some utilities like.....adaware....spybot...etc should be run.....hijack this is another cool utility that finds programs working in the background....

bestbuy is a good place to start looking for the memory but you can find it cheaper online. Have you also ran a virus and spyware scan?

The tweaks are just information to alter registry files.....setting up a static page files....etc...

****be carefull in editing the registry*******

There is alot of info on tweaking your video card and gameplay.....also if your on high speed there is also bandwidth tweaks......

Sorry I cant be more help......I remember those days of tweaking...overclocking etc to play better online games ...etc...

running spyware programs will also help with internet speeds.....adaware and spybot are free programs......can download those at download.com.

The real fun was trying to clear up conventional memory in the good ole DOS days. It was a real art. :D

also in addition to that:

start
run
type in: c:windows/temp
hit ctrl a delete

those pesky temp files appear everytime I start my comp and if I don't dump em they slow my comp down.

Another program I use is

CCleaner

scan for issues and remove them...

Go to www.crucial.com and use their memory configurator. It will ask you your computer maker, model etc. They will tell you exactly what you need and how much it is new (they make great memory at great prices BTW). If you are not happy paying their prices, go to eBay and do a search on the type of memory they recommend.

I agree with the suggestion from above that 1GB should be your min memory, which is about 4 times what you have now.

Secondly, if you are gaming, you should definitely consider a new video card. Again, these can be found on eBay for cheap.

If he is gaming he needs to upgrade from the 4 year old PC. If you plan to game the new games all the time your PC will have about a 3 year shelf life

You need a flux capacitor but you will also need 1.21 gigawatts of electricity to make it run.
