We always win the Super Bowl in July and lose it in November

Go back and look at the boards in July. The F.O. was being regaled at superior and right on with the rookie and free agent acquisitions. Our defense was going to be awesome with Taco added to a young and hungry front. Our linebacking was going to be improved with Jaylon playing up to his pre-injury greatness. The DBs and Safeties we lost were old, slow and bad hitters. They would be replaced by highly athletic, hard hitting and ball hawking rookies. Our defense was a turnover machine.

NOT SO MUCH!!!

Our defense does not know what the heck a turnover is. QBs love to throw against our zone. There are openings all over the field and our players do not know how to tackle. Jaylon is playing like a lost puppy rookie. He is constantly out of place and makes plays 6 or 7 yards down the field. Taco is useless. People wonder after the game whether he played at all. We have no ballers on defense except Lee, Scandrick and Irving/Lawrence, sometimes. Everyone else is a JAG. 30 and 31 have taken two steps backwards. 38 is no starter, plain and simple. Our defense has regressed. At least last year we stopped the run. Now we let second stringers put 100 on us in the first half.

Time for Red Ball and Marinelli to go, plain and simple. We are getting sub-optimal play from our team.
Shame on us who thought in July that we would be building on our 13-3 record of last year.

This team is another disappointment. I feel sorry for Dak, he is the only one who is exceeding expectations.
Zeke and the O-Line have also regressed. TWill is highly suspect and Dez is way over rated. We keep thinking he is the king of the Ally OOP. He is not, he has one route, the slant. Other than that he is a feckless route runner. He no longer captures the ball at its highest arc. He routinely gets smaller DBs who jump as high or higher than he does. Stop throwing that play. Last year he showed he could get open on the back shoulder but this year that seems to be out of the play book. Sit TWill and let Bryce and Noah play instead. OBTW, what has happened to Beas. He is less than an afterthought in this offense.

Too soon to throw in the towel. It looks bleak, but it's still possible for the offense to get it together and chew up clock which will help the defense considerably. We can turn it around and I choose to be optimistic because the alternative is too depressing.
I too would like to be optimistic. The offense is not the problem other than it cannot keep the ball out of the hands of the opposition for the entire game. WE NEED TO IMPROVE THE DEFENSE. What does that mean? We need to become more aggressive. We need to mix zone with man to man. We need to blitz to change things up for the opposition offense. We line up exactly the same way every time. We do not attack on defense. We play on our heels and react, way too slowly. We don't bunch the line on obvious running downs and we leave huge holes open in our zones. Their wide receivers are not open, they are so lonely they can set up a lonely heart club by the time the ball arrives.

Um, seriously? I remember a lot of calls to expect growing pains with a young secondary. We're getting them, but we all want immediate pro bowlers now that the season is underway.

I know a LOT of people were questioning Heath as a starting safety (I admit I was very wrong on that one).

No one thought Red was a good coach, and very few on this board have ever fans of the Marinelli scheme of complete docility on defense.

Carroll was uniformly dismissed as crap, other than people correcting the narrative that he wasn't the one Dez always beat up on, that was Bradley Fletcher.

We had a daily thread on how bad Dez has become, and when can we dump him and his cap hit.

Jaylon was expected to be on pup, and used sparingly when he was able to actually get on the field. Lots on here dismissed the thought he would ever even get on the field.

Dak was expected to throw more picks, but have more TDs as well.

OL was expected to be good, but maybe take some time to gel after changing 2 positions.

I could be wrong, but that's my recollection.

I hear you but there was a lot more optimism about the new players that would make our defense better. People were chortling about how bad Claiborne and the other starting DBs were that left in FA. The only one who got a bit of a concern was Church and that has turned out to be correct. We do not scare anyone in our ability to cover or tackle. Who among the group brings the wood? I really like 27 but the rest of the vets have regressed as a group. Even OScan has been average. Crawford is down right awful and Taco is an empty shell (pun intended). Our defense will be the Achilles heel that sinks any optimism. Our offense is a plus but it cannot score 40 a game week in and week out and that apparently is what it is going to take to win.

Think I am grabbing straws? Hey, did you look at our record. We are below 500 but I guess you, the non-straw grabber are one happy fan. Well thank you very much Mrs. Jones. Have a nice day shopping and drinking mint julips without a straw!

Woah Woah buddy, we don't need to get all the lawyers involved here!. I was simply answering your question asking what straws meant.

Win in July? We haven't signed any tier 1 FAs for years (we too smat, etc.) but agree with the complacency in the offseason. The thing that can be irritating is you hear fans being mouthpieces for SJ/JJ being complacent in FA as if it were their money; "he's not worth that much" "I would've like him, not for that price", etc. Those shouldn't be our concerns, it should be that of the GM to field a good team or Defense in our case.

I don't mean go Madden crazy, but it has been displayed by several other winning franchises that you can sign good FAs that fit your scheme while retaining your drafted talent; DEN, SEA, NE, etc.

Stop allowing them to go cheap every year. Don't we have cap room right now? Darryl Washington or Linebacker X couldn't hurt. But we don't pressure that type of signing in this fan base bc "we" allow SJ/JJ to craft that narrative way too easily in July like you mentioned. Just look at the justification and timeframe we are allowing for Jaylon, that shows how great the Dallas PR team has this base subdued.

Why would we sign a good S when we have a street FA from a Div 2 school in our wings? "Yeah, let's check him out first bf wasting money", etc.

Dang it. We were mathematically eliminated from the postseason. Which tiebreaker did us in this time? There are so many...

Wait one cotton-picking minute. Something does not smell quite right here. *smells armpit* Nope. It ain't me.

Main question is can Dak overcome the coaching staff. Tony had that problem for 10 years and couldn't shake it. Maybe Dak could but as of now, like this past sunday he hasn't. It may be known as the game of inches but the most important thing is time. Ask Arod.
