This team - at least for the most part - has had a shot at being a legit contender every season. Injuries aside, Dallas has been its own worst enemy. I'd imagine that the same will hold true this season. Do what needs to be done and not make those critical unforced errors, and there's no reason they can't make a run.

If Romo stays healthy and the defense improves, I see no reason why they cannot be a factor this season. Coaching (offense and defense) will play a major role in their success if Tony's back holds up.

True, schedule do not always end up being as tough or as easy as people think. Houston was a SB favorite and just went 2-14 losing 14 in a row. Alt as you mentioned. Washington went into the season as the fav of the East and Dallaas sweep them. Regardless of the prediction any one makes about the upcoming season the Cowboys just have to focus on one thing and that is improving as a team.
